Featured product section
The Featured product section of Local shows one product with its gallery and buy blocks on any page, a short version of the product page.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
The Featured product section shows one product on any page, with its gallery and buy blocks: a short version of the product page for the home page or a landing page. Customers can select a variant and add it to the cart without leaving the page.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section on any template and choose Featured product.
Most of the settings are described in Product page.
The product
Select product chooses the product to feature. The section shows its media, and the blocks show its title, price, variants and the rest. With no product selected, the section shows a sample product.
Media
The gallery is always a slider. The media settings work as on the product page:
- Images aspect ratio, Videos and other media aspect ratio, Crop videos when following images aspect ratio and Fit images inside container set the media shape.
- Show border around gallery, Inherit card design properties and Gallery inner spacing set the frame.
- Gallery slider pagination shows dots or thumbnails under the slider.
- Enable image zoom opens the clicked image full screen.
- Enable video looping, Enable video autoplay and Disable parallax effect set the videos and the swipe effect. Looping and autoplay are off by default here.
Functionality
Select the first available variant by default selects the first variant in stock. When it is off, customers must select every option before they can add to cart.
Product blocks
The section is built from the product page blocks, in the order you set. These blocks are available, and documented on the product page block pages:
- Title, Vendor, Price, Tax information, SKU / barcode, Product badges, Description and Product rating: Product information blocks.
- Text, Collapsible tab, Image, Text banner, Divider and Empty space: Product content blocks.
- Variant picker, Product siblings, Buy buttons and Custom property: Product variant and buy blocks.
- Pickup availability and Back in stock alert: Product availability blocks.
- Nutritional information, Nutriscore, Attribute meter, Progress dots chart, Progress bar chart and Icons list: Product attribute blocks.
- Products list, Coupon code and Disclosures: More product blocks.
One block exists only here: Product link adds a full-width "View product details" button that opens the product page. It has no settings.
The Share, Complementary products, Custom HTML / Liquid, Button, Popup and Variant metafield blocks are not available in this section.
Which blocks can the Featured product section show?
All the product page blocks except Share, Complementary products, Custom HTML / Liquid, Button, Popup and Variant metafield, plus the Product link block. Blocks that read metafields, such as Collapsible tab or Nutriscore, read the metafields of the selected product. The blocks and their settings are separate from the product page: set them again in each Featured product section.
How do I show swatches in the Featured product section?
Select the section's Variant picker block, set Variants selector type to Blocks and type the same metafields as on the product page in Metaobject swatch metafields. Shopify swatches from category metafields show without any setting. See Variant swatches.
All Featured product settings
Every setting of the section and of its 30 blocks, with its type and default.
Accepts these blocks: Coupon code, Disclosures, Divider, Text, Vendor, Title, Product badges, Price, Tax information, SKU / barcode, Variant picker, Back in stock alert, Product siblings, Custom property, Buy buttons, Description, Nutritional information, Product rating, Collapsible tab, Pickup availability, Image, Products list, Icons list, Progress dots chart, Progress bar chart, Product link, Empty space, Nutriscore, Attribute meter and Text banner.
Select product (product picker): The product the section shows. Its media fill the gallery and the blocks show its title, price, variants and metafields.
Featured product section: Media
Where to find it: Featured product → Media
Images aspect ratio (dropdown, default: Uncropped: Natural): Crops every product image to the same shape. Natural keeps each image uncropped. Videos and 3D models follow Videos and other media aspect ratio. Options: Uncropped: Natural, Cropped: Short (4:3), Cropped: Square (1:1), Cropped: Tall (5:6), Cropped: Taller (2:3).
Videos and other media aspect ratio (dropdown, default: Keep media original aspect ratio): Sets whether videos and 3D models keep their own shape or follow Images aspect ratio. Options: Keep media original aspect ratio, Follow images aspect ratio.
Crop videos when following images aspect ratio (checkbox, default: on): Fills the image shape with the video, cropping its edges, instead of fitting it inside with bars. Shown only when Videos and other media aspect ratio is Follow images aspect ratio.
Fit images inside container (checkbox, default: off): Shows the whole image inside the cropped shape instead of cutting its edges. Shown only when Images aspect ratio is not Uncropped: Natural.
Show border around gallery (checkbox, default: off): Draws a thin border around each gallery image. Ignored when Inherit card design properties is on.
Inherit card design properties (checkbox, default: off): Gives each gallery image the card border, card background and card shadow from Theme settings.
Gallery inner spacing (slider 0 to 15 %, default: 0 %): Adds space inside each image frame, as a percentage, so the product sits inside the frame with room around it.
Gallery slider pagination (radio buttons, default: Dots): Sets the slider navigation: dots, or thumbnails of every media item. Options: Dots, Thumbnails.
Enable image zoom (checkbox, default: on): Opens the clicked image full screen; the image moves with the mouse so customers can look at details.
Enable video looping (checkbox, default: off): Replays product videos when they end.
Enable video autoplay (checkbox, default: off): Starts product videos on their own, muted and without controls.
Disable parallax effect (checkbox, default: off): Turns off the sideways movement of the images while the customer swipes the gallery slider.
Featured product section: Functionality

Select the first available variant by default (checkbox, default: on): Selects the first variant in stock. When off, customers must select a value for every option before the add to cart button works; products with one variant are always selected.
Coupon code block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Coupon code
Code (text field, default: "SAVE10"): The discount code customers copy with one click. Create the discount with the same code in Shopify admin → Discounts; the block does not apply it.
Caption (text field): A short line under the code, for example the discount it gives.
Link label (text field).
Link (link). Shown only when Link label is set.
Open link in a new window (checkbox, default: off). Shown only when Link label is set.
Coupon code block: Block Style

Heading tag (dropdown, default: H2): Specify heading level to help search engines index the structure of your page. Options: H1, H2, H3, H4, span.
Product badges block

The Product badges block has no settings in Local 4.2.1.
Price block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Price

The Price block has no settings in Local 4.2.1.
Tax information block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Tax information
One Tax information block per section.
Open links in (dropdown, default: Popup): Sets where the shipping policy link opens: in a popup over the product page, in the same window or in a new window. The link shows only when the store has a shipping policy in Shopify admin → Settings → Policies. Options: Popup, Same window, New window.
SKU / barcode block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → SKU / barcode
One SKU / barcode block per section.
The SKU / barcode block has no settings in Local 4.2.1.
Variant picker block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Variant picker
One Variant picker block per section.
Variants selector type (dropdown, default: Blocks): Shows the option values as buttons (Blocks) or in a dropdown. Color and image swatches need Blocks. Options: Blocks, Dropdown.
The "blocks" variant selector type offers support for color swatches created with category metafields. Shopify Help Center.
Metaobject swatch metafields (text field): The product metafields, typed as namespace.key and separated by commas, whose metaobject entries give option values their image or color swatches. See Variant swatches.
Variant picker block: Inventory level
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Variant picker → Inventory level
Inventory notification (dropdown, default: Don't show inventory information): Shows a stock message under the options. The below-5 option shows the number left from 5 items down; Always show inventory also shows it above 5. Needs inventory tracking on the variant. Options: Don't show inventory information, Show a notice if inventory falls below 5, Always show inventory.
Custom inventory notification colors.
Low inventory (color, default: transparent).
Regular stock (color, default: transparent).
Out of stock (color, default: transparent).
Back in stock alert block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Back in stock alert
One Back in stock alert block per section.
This back in stock alert form will show up when the product is out of stock.
Store owner will receive an email when a customer fills in this form. Store owner must manually notify the customer once the product is back in stock.
Text (formatted text, default: "Enter your email address below to be notified when this product is back in stock.").
Button label (text field, default: "Notify me").
Success message (text field, default: "Thanks! We will notify you when this product becomes available!"): Shows after the customer sends the form.
Email message (text field, default: "I would like to be notified when this product is back in stock."): The message you receive in the contact email, together with the customer's email, the product, the variant and its link.
Product siblings block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Product siblings
To assign a different list to each product, use a product reference list metafield as a dynamic source. See Product variant and buy blocks.
Heading (text field, default: "Sibling products").
Products (products picker): The products shown as thumbnails, each linked to its page. Connect it to a product list metafield so each product shows its own group.
Media aspect ratio (dropdown, default: Square (1:1)). Options: Short (4:3), Square (1:1), Tall (5:6), Taller (2:3).
Reduce opacity for unavailable products (checkbox, default: off): Fades the thumbnails of sold out products.
Custom property block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Custom property
Line item properties allow you to gather customization details for a product added to the cart.
Label (text field, default: "Custom property"): The field name shown to the customer, and the name of the line item property in the cart and the order.
Type (dropdown, default: Text). Options: Text, Checkbox, Dropdown.
Required (checkbox, default: off): Customers must fill out this field to add the product to the cart.
Hide at checkout (checkbox, default: off): Keeps the answer out of the checkout and the order summary the customer sees (the property name gets a leading underscore). You still see it in the order in Shopify admin.
Custom property block: Text property settings
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Custom property → Text property settings
Allow long text (checkbox, default: off). Shown only when Type is Text.
Maximum characters (number). Shown only when Type is Text.

Value (text field, default: "Yes"): Appears on the order summary. Shown only when Type is Checkbox.
Custom property block: Dropdown property settings

Values (text field, default: "Value 1,Value 2,Value 3"): Separate values by a comma. Shown only when Type is Dropdown.
Default value (checkbox, default: on): Adds an empty "----" choice that is selected first, so the customer must pick a value. Shown only when Type is Dropdown.
Buy buttons block
Where to find it: Featured product → Add block → Buy buttons
One Buy buttons block per section.
Show price (checkbox, default: on): Shows the price above the buttons, with the amount saved when the variant is on sale.
Show quantity selector (checkbox, default: on).
Show "pre-order" button label (checkbox, default: off): Shows "Pre-Order" instead of "Add to cart" for every available variant of every product on this template. Use a separate template for pre-order products.
Show dynamic checkout buttons (checkbox, default: on): Using the payment methods available on your store, customers see their preferred option, like PayPal or Apple Pay. Shopify Help Center.
Show recipient information form for gift card products (checkbox, default: off): Adds a form to send a gift card product to a recipient by email, with a name, a message and a send date. Dynamic checkout buttons are hidden on gift card products while it is on.
Buy buttons block: Custom colors
