Events list section

The Events list section of Local lists the events of your events blog by date, soonest first, with an option to hide past events.

Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 4.2.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.

The Events list section lists the events of your events blog as cards, by start date, soonest first. Use it on an events page, on the home page for upcoming events, or under each event for other events.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section on any template and choose Events list.

The events, their dates and the metafields are set up on Events calendar. The steps to build an events page with this section are there too, under "Building the events page". For other events under each event, see "Showing event recommendations" on Event page.

Local 4.2.1 does not include the event blog post template in its theme files, and the theme editor cannot create it: its section cannot be added with Add section. Without it, event cards open the post in the default blog post layout. If the template picker has no Blog posts → event template, contact Krown support.

Heading

The section has the standard heading settings: Heading (default "Upcoming events"), Subheading, Text alignment, and Show section link with Link text and Link, for example to your events page. See General section styling.

Content

  • Events blog chooses the blog that holds your events. Without a blog, the section shows sample cards.
  • Number of events to show sets 1 to 50 events (default 4).
  • Hide past events leaves out events whose date has passed. An event stays listed for its whole day.

How the list is sorted:

  • By start date and time, earliest first. With Hide past events off, past events come first, then the upcoming ones.
  • Posts without a date are left out, as long as a date metafield is set in Theme settings → Events.
  • If no post of the blog has a date, the list shows the posts in blog order.
  • On an event page, the event being viewed is always left out.

The section reads up to 250 posts of the blog.

Event card

Each card shows the year, the day and month, the weekday and the time range of the event, then its title.

  • Show featured image shows the post's featured image.
  • Show tags shows the post's tags.
  • Show excerpt shows the post's excerpt in full, or the start of its content when it has no excerpt. Number of words sets that length (default 25).
  • Show link to event adds a "View event" button. Button style sets it to Outline or Solid.

The title and the button open the event page. Custom card design sets the card colors, and Section design, SEO and Visibility are the standard section settings. The first Section design setting is labeled Section design in the editor; it is the section's background color.

Why is an event missing from the list?

Usually because the post has no date, the event is past, or the list is full.

  • Fill the date metafield on the post. Posts without a date are left out.
  • Check Hide past events: an event disappears the day after its date.
  • Raise Number of events to show.
  • Check that the post is in the blog selected in Events blog, and that it is published (visible).

Why do past events still show?

Because Hide past events is off, which is the default. Past events then come first, before the upcoming ones. Turn on Hide past events in the Events list section; an event stays listed until the end of its day.

Is the Events calendar preset of Content toggles the same thing?

No. The Content toggles section has a preset called Events calendar, a hand-written list of toggles with sample event rows. It does not read your events blog or its metafields. Use the Events list section for events from your blog.
