Search form section
The Search form section of Combine shows a search field with a title and text, on a page or in the Footer group.
Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.
The Search form section shows a search field with a title and a short text. Customers type a word and go to the search results page. The Footer group holds one above the footer, hidden until you show it.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section and choose Search form or Search bar. The two are the same section; Search bar starts as a full-width bar with no title, no text and no top margin. In the footer, select Search form in the Footer group.
Content
- Title is the heading above the field (default "Search our store").
- Text is the line under the field. It takes bold, italic and links.
- With both Title and Text empty, the section shrinks to a slim search bar.
- Fullwidth stretches the section background to the edges of the screen.
- Heading tag under SEO sets the HTML level of the title.
Section design and gutter
- Background, Text and Border set the section's colors. The default background is a light gray.
- Remove top margin and Remove bottom margin work as described in General section styling.
Does the search form show suggestions as customers type?
No. The Search form section sends the words to the search results page when the customer presses the button. Suggestions while typing come from the search in the header; see Predictive search theme settings.
How do I show the search form above the footer?
Combine's Footer group already holds a Search form section, hidden by default. In the theme editor sidebar, point to Search form in the Footer group and select the eye icon next to its name. It starts as a dark full-width bar with no title; add a Title and Text if you want them.
