Promotion cards section

The Promotion cards section of Combine shows image or video cards with text and a button, as a slider or a grid.

Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.

The Promotion cards section shows up to 12 cards with an image or a video, a caption, a title, a subtitle and a button under the media, as a slider or a grid.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section and choose Promotion slider. The section starts with four cards.

Layout

  • Desktop layout sets the cards per row on desktop: 2 columns, 3 columns (the default) or 4 columns. On screens narrower than 768 px, one card shows per row; 4 columns become 2 below 1024 px.
  • Media aspect ratio crops every card image to one shape: Short (4:3), Square (1:1) (the default), Tall (5:6) or Taller (2:3).
  • Layout is Slider (the default), which scrolls sideways, or Grid.

Text style

  • Text alignment aligns the card text: Left, Center (the default) or Right.
  • Caption size, Title size and Subtitle size set the size of each line: Small or Regular.
  • Text spacing sets the gap between the lines, from -12 to 60 px (default 18 px).
  • Button style is Outline (the default) or Solid.

Custom card design

Border radius rounds the corners of the cards, 0 to 30 px. The section heading, background colors, margins and heading tag work as described in General section styling.

Blocks

Card

  • Image is the card picture, cropped to Media aspect ratio.
  • Video plays muted in a loop instead of the image; the image shows when the video cannot play. Use different media on mobile shows Mobile video file on small screens, with its own Mobile video aspect ratio.
  • Caption, Title and Subtitle are the three lines of text under the media. Leave any of them empty to hide it.
  • Button label sets the button text (default "Show more").
  • Link is where the card goes. With a Button label, the link is on the button; without one, the whole card is the link.
  • Background, Text and Border under Custom card design give the card its own colors. Hide border removes the line around it.
  • Heading tag under SEO sets the HTML level of the card title (default H3).

Should I use Promotion cards or Flex cards?

Use Promotion cards for a fixed layout of media, caption, title, subtitle and button that is quick to fill in. Use the Flex cards section when cards need other blocks, such as a star rating, a quick buy button or two buttons, or different widths.

How do I show the cards in a grid instead of a slider?

Set Layout to Grid. The cards then wrap into rows of the Desktop layout columns instead of scrolling sideways.
