Countdown section

The Countdown section of Combine shows a timer counting down to a date and time you set, with a heading, text, button and image.

Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.1.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.

The Countdown section shows a clock counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to a date and time you set, with a heading, text, a button and an image. Use it for a sale, a launch or a holiday shipping deadline.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section and choose Countdown. The Sale page template (page.sale) already has one; see Alternate page templates.

Setting the end date and time zone

Add the section

Select Add section and choose Countdown. It starts with a Heading, a Countdown clock, a Text and a Button block.

Set the end date

Select the Countdown clock block. Set End year, End month and End day to the day the offer ends.

Set the end hour

Set End hour, from 0 to 24. 0 is midnight at the start of the day you chose; 24 is midnight at its end.

Choose the time zone

Set Timezone to the GMT offset of the place where the offer ends, at the time it ends. The list has fixed offsets, from GMT -12:00 to GMT +12:00, with no summer time: during summer time in Bucharest, for example, choose GMT +3:00.

Write the heading, text and button

Fill in the Heading block, up to two Text blocks and the Button block, and save. Every customer sees the same moment, whatever their own time zone.

When the countdown reaches zero, the clock stays on the page and shows 00 everywhere. Remove or hide the section after the offer ends, or change the date for the next one.

Image and card

  • Image is the picture next to the card. Image position puts it On the left or On the right (the default).
  • Card height sets the minimum height of the card on desktop: Small, Medium (the default) or Large. On mobile the card is as tall as its content.
  • Fullwidth stretches the section to the edges of the screen.
  • Text alignment aligns the blocks Left (the default), Center or Right.
  • Text spacing sets the gap between the blocks, from -12 to 60 px (default 24 px).

Custom card design

  • Background, Text and Border set the card's colors. Border radius rounds its corners, 0 to 30 px. Hide border removes the line around it.
  • Decrease top margin, Remove top margin and Remove bottom margin under Gutter work as described in General section styling.

Blocks

The section holds up to 9 blocks, shown in the order of the sidebar.

Countdown clock

End year (2020 to 2029), End month, End day, End hour and Timezone set the moment the clock counts down to. One clock per section.

Heading

  • Heading is the title, for example "Flash Sale". Heading size is Regular, Large (the default) or Extra large.
  • Heading tag under SEO sets its HTML level (default H2).

Text

Text is a paragraph with bold, italic and links; Text size is Regular or Large. Up to two Text blocks.

Button

Button label, Button link and Button style (Outline or Solid) set one button, for example to the sale collection.

Why does my countdown show the wrong time?

Because Timezone does not match the offset of your time zone at the end date. The list has fixed GMT offsets and does not follow summer time. Pick the offset that applies on the end day, for example GMT -4:00 for New York in July and GMT -5:00 in December.

Why does the countdown show only zeros?

Because the end date has passed. Check End year, End month, End day and End hour in the Countdown clock block. The clock does not restart or hide on its own.
