Blog posts section
The Blog posts section of Combine shows the latest articles of one blog as a grid or slider, built from title, info, excerpt and tag blocks.
Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.
The Blog posts section shows the latest articles of one blog as a grid or a slider. The section sets the layout; blocks choose what each article card shows: title, date, excerpt, tags and a read more button.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, select Add section and choose Blog posts.

Articles
- Blog picks the blog the articles come from. The section shows its newest articles first.
- Show link to blog page (on by default) adds a button to the blog in the section heading.
- Show featured image (on by default) shows each article's featured image. Turn it off for text-only cards.
- Media aspect ratio crops the images to one shape: Short (4:3) (the default), Square (1:1), Tall (5:6) or Taller (2:3).
- Media border radius rounds the image corners, 0 to 30 px.
- Layout is Grid (the default) or Slider, which scrolls sideways. Both show three articles per row on desktop and one below 768 px.
- Maximum number of articles shown sets how many articles appear, 3 to 9 (default 3).
The section heading, colors, margins and heading tag work as described in General section styling. In Blog posts the color under Section design is called Text color.
Blocks
Each block adds one line to every article card, in the order of the blocks in the sidebar. Each block can be added once. A new section starts with Info and Title.
Title
Shows the article title. It has no settings.
Info
- Show date (on by default) shows the publishing date.
- Show author shows the author's name.
- Show comments number shows how many comments the article has, when comments are turned on for the blog.
Excerpt
Shows the excerpt you wrote for the article in Shopify admin. When an article has none, it shows the first words of the article; Number of words sets how many, 5 to 40 (default 15).
Article link
Adds a button to the article. Button label sets its text (default "Read more").
Tags
Shows the article's tags. Maximum number of shown tags sets how many, 2 to 8 (default 3).
Why does my blog posts section show no articles?
Because the selected blog has no published articles. The section then shows a short "no articles" message. Check in Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts that the blog's articles are visible. With no Blog selected at all, the section shows example cards instead.
How do I show a summary under each article title?
Add the Excerpt block. Write a manual excerpt for each article in Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts → the article → Excerpt. Without one, Combine shows the first 15 words of the article, or the number you set.
