Footer group

The Footer group of Combine holds the Footer section with text, menus, images, payment icons, Follow on Shop and email signup blocks.

Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.

The Footer group is the bottom part of your store, the same on every page. By default it holds the Footer section, with your contact text, menus, payment icons and an email signup, and a Search form section that is hidden.

Where to find it: select a section in the Footer group at the bottom of the theme editor sidebar. The Footer group is the same on every page, so you can open it from any template.

  • Search form: a search field with a title, documented on Search form section. It is hidden by default: select the eye icon next to it to show it.
  • Footer: the footer itself, built from blocks (this page).
  • You can add other sections to the Footer group with Add section, for example an Email signup section or an Announcement bar.
  • Desktop layout sets how many columns the footer blocks use on desktop: 3 columns or 4 columns (default). Tablets show 2 columns with the 4 column layout, and phones show one block under the other.
  • The Footer section has up to 8 blocks. They fill the columns in the order of the blocks.
  • Heading tag sets the HTML tag of the block headings (H1 to H4 or span), for search engines. The look does not change.
  • The footer colors are in Theme settings → Colors → Footer. See Colors theme settings.

Language and country selectors

  • Show language selector and Show country/region selector add the selectors at the bottom of the footer (both off by default).
  • They appear only when your store has more than one published language (Shopify admin → Settings → Languages) or more than one country or region (Shopify admin → Settings → Markets).

Select Add block inside the Footer section to add one of these blocks.

Text & social icons

  • Heading and Content show a short text, for example your contact details or a sentence about your brand.
  • Image heading shows an image, such as your logo, instead of the heading text. Image heading width sets its width, from 40 to 200 px.
  • Show social icons adds the icons from Social theme settings.
  • Do not use headings (H1 to H6) inside Content: the block already has a heading, and headings break the footer layout.
  • Heading and Menu show the links of a Shopify menu (default: the footer menu). Only the top-level links show, not dropdown links.
  • Open links in a new window opens every link of the menu in a new tab.
  • Style links with an underline underlines the links; turn it off for plain links.

Image

  • Select image shows an image, for example a trust badge or a store photo, under the Heading.
  • Image border radius rounds its corners. Constrain image width with Maximum width (50 to 300 px) keeps it small.
  • Link makes the image a link; Open link opens it In a new page or On the same page.

Payment icons

  • The block shows the icons of the payment methods your store accepts, from Shopify admin → Settings → Payments. Shopify decides the list, also by the customer's region and currency.
  • Custom icons: upload up to six icons of your own (Icon 1 to Icon 6), as 114 x 72 px PNG images. They show after Shopify's icons.
  • Only show the custom icons hides Shopify's icons, so only your uploads show.

Payment icons follow your store's payment settings, not only Shopify Payments. A payment method that has no icon needs a custom icon.

Adding your own payment icons

Add the block

In the Footer section, select Add block → Payment icons. You can add one Payment icons block.

Upload the icons

Under Custom icons, upload up to six images in Icon 1 to Icon 6, as 114 x 72 px PNG files.

Hide Shopify's icons (optional)

Turn on Only show the custom icons to show only your uploads, in your order.

Follow on Shop

  • Shows Shopify's Follow on Shop button, so customers can follow your store in the Shop app, under the Heading.
  • The button needs Shop Pay to be turned on in your store. Shopify controls it.

Email signup

  • Shows an email field under the Heading. Subscribers are added to Shopify admin → Customers with the tag newsletter and email marketing consent.
  • You can add one Email signup block.

Why do the payment icons not show?

Shopify has no payment method to show for your store, or for the customer's region and currency. The icons come from Shopify admin → Settings → Payments; a store without active payment methods, or a payment provider without icons, shows none. Upload your own icons in the block's Custom icons.

Yes. Select Add section in the Footer group and pick any section allowed there, for example Email signup, Rich text or Announcement bar. The sections show above or below the Footer section, in the order of the group, on every page.

The Menu block shows only the top-level links of a menu. Child links (dropdowns) are not shown in the footer. Put the links you want in the footer at the top level of a separate footer menu in Shopify admin → Content → Menus.
