Age verification section
The Age verification section of Combine asks visitors to confirm their age before they see the store, with your heading, text and colors.
Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 2.4.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.
The Age verification section covers the store with a message that customers must confirm before they can browse, for example for alcohol or tobacco. Combine added it in 2.4.0.
Where to find it: select Age verification in the theme editor sidebar, after the Footer group. It is the same on every page.
Turning the age verification on
Turn on the popup
Select Age verification and turn on Enable popup.
Write the message
Set the Heading, the Text (for example "By clicking enter, I certify that I am over the age of 18") and the Button label.
Pick the colors
Set Background color and Text color. The button uses the text color as its background, with black or white text for contrast.
Check it in a private window
Select Save, then open the store in a private browser window. The popup shows as soon as the page loads.
In the theme editor, the popup shows while the Age verification section is selected, so you can check the design.
How the age verification behaves
- It opens immediately on every page, over the whole store, and the page behind it cannot scroll.
- It has one button. Selecting it closes the popup. The Esc key does not close it.
- After the customer selects the button, the popup stays closed in that browser for 28 days, then shows again.
How often does the age verification show?
Once every 28 days per browser. Combine remembers the click in the customer's browser, so a new browser, a private window or cleared site data shows it again. Combine has no setting to change this interval.
Does the age verification block customers under the age limit?
No. Combine does not check ages. The age verification is a notice: anyone can select the button, and there is no "No" button or redirect for customers under the age limit. If your products need a legal age check, use an age verification app that meets the rules of your market.

Every setting of this section, with its type and default.
Enable popup (checkbox, default: off): Shows the age verification over the whole store as soon as a page loads. After the button is selected, it stays closed in that browser for 28 days.
Heading (text field, default: "Age verification").
Text (rich text, default: "By clicking enter, I certify that I am over the age of 18"): Sets the message above the button.
Button label (text field, default: "Enter"): Sets the label of the only button, which closes the popup.

Background color (color, default: #111111): Sets the background of the popup.
Text color (color, default: #ffffff): Sets the text color and the button background. The button text is black or white, for contrast.
