Product recommendations section
The Product recommendations section of Local shows products related to the one on the page, chosen by Shopify, as product cards.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
The Product recommendations section shows products related to the one on the page, as a slider of product cards. Shopify chooses the products; you choose how many and what each card shows.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, open Products → Default product and select Product recommendations, under the Product page section.
Heading
The section has the standard heading settings: Heading (default "Recommended products"), Subheading, Text alignment and an optional section link. See General section styling.
Content
- Desktop layout shows 3, 4 or 5 product cards side by side on desktop. The cards scroll as a slider when there are more.
- Mobile layout shows 1 or 2 cards side by side on mobile.
- Maximum number of products shown sets how many products Shopify returns, 3 to 10.
Custom card design and Section design set the card colors and the section background, as in General section styling.
Product card blocks
Each product card is built from blocks, in the order you set: Price, Title, Quick buy, Vendor, Rating, Icons list, Dynamic text, Product link and Empty space. The default template shows Price, Title and Quick buy. These blocks are the same as in the collection page grid and are documented on Product grid blocks.
The Local availability block of product grids is not available in this section.
Who chooses the recommended products?
Shopify does. The section asks Shopify for products related to the current one, based on sales and product descriptions. You can choose related products yourself with Shopify's Search & Discovery app. A new store with few orders may get no recommendations, and the section then shows nothing.
Can I show complementary products instead?
Yes, with the Complementary products block inside the Product page section, not with this section. That block shows the complementary products you set in Search & Discovery. See More product blocks.
All Product recommendations settings
Every setting of the section and its blocks, with its type and default.
Accepts these blocks: Price, Title, Quick buy, Vendor, Rating, Icons list, Dynamic text, Product link and Empty space.
Product recommendations section: Heading
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Heading
The Product recommendations section uses the standard Heading settings, listed in General section styling.
Heading (text field, default: "Recommended products").
Subheading (text field).
Text alignment (dropdown, default: Left). Options: Left, Center.
Show section link (checkbox, default: off).
Link text (text field). Shown only when Show section link is on.
Link (link). Shown only when Show section link is on and Link text is set.
Open link in a new window (checkbox, default: off). Shown only when Link is set and Show section link is on and Link text is set.

Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Content
Desktop layout (dropdown, default: 4 columns): Sets how many product cards show side by side on desktop. More products scroll as a slider. Options: 3 columns, 4 columns, 5 columns.

Icons list block

This theme allows you to add custom product icons through dynamic content. See Dynamic icons list theme settings.
Dynamic text block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Dynamic text
Label metafield (text field): custom.product_text.
Text size (dropdown, default: Regular). Options: Small, Regular, Large.
Text color (color, default: #6A6A6A).
Text transform (uppercase) (checkbox, default: off).
Product link block
Where to find it: Products → Default product → Product recommendations → Add block → Product link
One Product link block per section.
Button label (text field, default: "View product").
Empty space block

The Empty space block has no settings in Local 4.2.1.
