Collection page

The Collection page of Local: the collection banner, the product grid with filters, sorting and comparing, and the product card blocks.

Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.

The Collection page is the page of one collection: a banner with the collection title, then a grid of product cards with filters, sorting and an optional product comparison. The product cards are built from the same blocks as every product grid in Local.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → Collections → Default collection

The product grid is the first thing many customers see of your products. Its design (colors, image ratio, badges, buttons) comes from Theme settings → Product card and is the same in every grid. Its content and layout are set here, per collection template.

Collection banner

The Collection banner section shows the collection title as the page heading.

  • Show collection description adds the collection description under the title.
  • Show collection image turns the banner into an image banner with the collection image behind the title. A collection without an image keeps the plain title.
  • With the image on, Text alignment places the title in one of nine positions, Overlay tints the image and Text sets the text color.
  • Fullwidth stretches the image banner to the edges of the screen and puts the breadcrumb inside it. Remove bottom margin removes the space under the banner.

The description and image are edited in Shopify admin → Products → Collections, not in the theme.

Filtering and sorting

  • Enable filtering (on by default) shows the filters. Which filters exist (availability, price, vendor, product type, options, metafields) is set in Shopify admin with the Shopify Search & Discovery app, not in the theme. See Shopify's guide to storefront filtering.
  • Enable sorting (on by default) shows the sort menu (best selling, price, alphabetical, date).
  • Enable comparing (off by default) adds the Compare switch and the compare bar. See Product comparison page.
  • Show filters as shows the filters as a List above the grid (default) or in a Sidebar on the left.
  • Expand sidebar filters by default and Stick filters sidebar to the top (Sidebar only) open every filter group when the page loads and keep the sidebar in view while scrolling.
  • Image filter layout shows filters with images (visual filters from Search & Discovery) in 1 or 2 columns.

On phones the filters open in a drawer.

Layout

  • Products per page sets how many products load before the pagination, 12 to 212 (default 24).
  • Desktop layout sets 3, 4 (default) or 5 products per row on desktop.
  • Mobile layout sets 1 (default) or 2 products per row on phones.

Product card blocks

The Product grid section builds every card from blocks: Price, Title, Quick buy, Vendor, Rating, Local availability, Icons list, Dynamic text, Product link and Empty space. Add the blocks you want, drag them into order, and set the ones that need data. Some blocks work by default; others need setup:

  • Dynamic text needs a product metafield.
  • Rating needs a reviews app.
  • Local availability needs the store selector and local pickup.
  • Icons list needs the icon metafields in Theme settings → Product card.

Each block and its setup is on Product grid blocks.

How do I show filters in a sidebar?

Select the Product grid section and set Filtering and sorting → Show filters as to Sidebar. Then choose Expand sidebar filters by default and Stick filters sidebar to the top. On phones the filters always open in a drawer.

How many products can a collection page show?

Up to 212 per page, set with Products per page (default 24). More products continue on the next pages through the pagination at the bottom of the grid.

Why do my filters not show?

Because Enable filtering is off, or because no filters are set up for your store. Shopify creates the filters: install the Shopify Search & Discovery app and add filters there.
