Password page

The Password page of Local shows while your store is password protected, with a header, a message, an email signup and a footer.

Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.

The Password page is what customers see while your store is password protected, for example before launch. It shows your logo, a message, an email signup form and a link where you, or anyone with the password, can enter the store.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the template picker and select Password page.

The page has a fixed header and footer, and its own sections in between: Password content and an Email signup section by default.

Password header

  • Logo image shows your logo at the top. Without one, the store name shows as text.
  • Logo image maximum height sets the logo height (default 80 px).

The header also has an "Enter store using password" link that opens the password form.

Password content

  • Heading is the main message (default "Opening soon").
  • Content is the text under it, for example the launch date.

The Email signup section under it collects emails as customers with email marketing consent in Shopify admin → Customers. See Email signup section. You can add other sections too.

The footer shows the copyright line with your store name and the "Powered by Shopify" link.

  • Show social icons adds your social icons, from Theme settings → Social.

How do I turn off the password page?

In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Preferences and turn off Password protection. Shopify controls the password, not the theme. On a store without a paid plan, Shopify keeps the password page on until you choose a plan.
