404 page
The 404 page of Local appears when a customer opens a link that does not exist; add sections to it to help customers move on.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
The 404 page appears when a customer opens a link that does not exist on your store, for example an old product URL. It shows "Page not found", a short message and a button to your products.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the template picker and select 404 page, then select Main 404.
What the 404 page shows
The Main 404 section has no settings. It shows the title "Page not found", a line of text and a Continue browsing button that opens the all products page. Change these texts in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content.
Add sections under it with Add section, for example a Featured collection with your best sellers, so customers who land on a broken link still find products.
How do I send customers from an old link to the right page?
Create a URL redirect from the old path to the new page: in Shopify admin, open Content → Menus and select View URL redirects (Online Store → Navigation in older admins). Shopify then redirects the old link and customers never see the 404 page. Redirects are a Shopify feature, not a theme setting.
