Countdown block

The Countdown block in Seventh counts down to a date and time you set, and can hide itself when the countdown is over.

Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.

The Countdown block shows a live timer in days, hours, minutes and seconds until a date and hour you choose, with optional text before and after it.

Where to find it: select Add block inside a section or card in the theme editor, then choose Countdown. The Countdown section is a preset that already contains one.

Setting the end date

Set the date

Set End year, End month and End day.

Set the hour

Set End hour from 0 to 24. The countdown ends at the start of that hour, so 0 is midnight at the start of the end day.

Set the timezone

Select the Timezone of the end time, for example GMT +1:00 for Central European Time in winter. Every customer sees the same moment, wherever they are.

The end time is read in the timezone you select in the block, not in your store's timezone and not in the customer's. The Timezone list has fixed GMT offsets, so change it yourself when daylight saving time starts or ends.

Common use cases

  • Sale countdown: set a clear end date for the promotion and add short text before or after the timer.
  • Launch timer: build anticipation for a new release. A larger Text size adds impact.

What happens when the countdown ends?

The timer stops at zero. With Hide block if countdown is over turned on, the block is hidden on the next page load after the end time. Turn it off to keep showing the zeros and the text, for example "Sale ended".

Why does the countdown show the wrong time?

Because Timezone does not match the timezone you had in mind. Check that the End hour and Timezone together give the moment you want, for example 18 with GMT -5:00 for 6 PM in New York in winter.
