Video section
The Video section of Borders plays a YouTube or Vimeo video, with a background image before it starts.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
The Video section plays a YouTube or Vimeo video inside a page, in a 16:9 frame. Before the customer presses play, it shows your background image with a play button; the video player loads only after the click, so the page stays fast.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Video.
Content
- Video URL is the YouTube or Vimeo address of the video, for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.... - Background image is the cover shown before the video plays. Without one, Borders shows a placeholder illustration, not the YouTube or Vimeo thumbnail.
- The video plays with sound and with the player's controls, and does not loop.
- The frame is always 16:9 and fills the section's width (at most 1360 px with Centered fixed width layout).
The section also has the usual Section heading, Section design and Inner content design settings (Remove border radius, Remove inner padding & border radius). See General section styling.
Can I play a video I uploaded to Shopify?
Not in this section. Video URL accepts YouTube and Vimeo links only. For a video file uploaded to Shopify, use a section with a Video setting, such as Rich text section, Rich blocks section or Vertical slider section, which play it muted as a background.
Why does my video show a gray illustration instead of a preview?
The section has no Background image. Borders does not load the YouTube or Vimeo thumbnail; upload a cover image, ideally 16:9, to replace the placeholder.
Can the video autoplay?
No. The Video section always waits for the customer to press play, so it never starts with sound by surprise. For a muted video that plays by itself, use the Video setting of Rich text, Rich blocks or Vertical slider.
