Recently viewed products in Borders: the theme setting that records viewed products and the section that shows them to the customer.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.1.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
Recently viewed products shows each customer the products they looked at last, in a slider. It needs two parts: a theme setting that records the viewed products, and the Recently viewed products section that shows them (Borders 1.1.0 and later).
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Recently viewed products.
Turn on recording
- Theme settings → Recently viewed products → Enable recently viewed products makes the theme remember every product page the customer opens.
- Recording happens in the customer's browser. It keeps the last 8 products, per browser and device, not per customer account.
- Without this setting, the section stays empty and hidden.
Add the section
- Add the Recently viewed products section where you want the list, for example at the bottom of the product template or on the home page. A page can have one.
- Heading sets the section title (default "Recently viewed products"). Hide heading border, Color scheme and Hide section bottom border work as in General section styling.
- The section shows the products newest first, as a slider, with the design from Product card theme settings.
- The section is hidden until the customer has viewed at least one product. In the theme editor it is empty too, unless you open some products in the preview first.
Layout
The columns are theme settings, so every Recently viewed products section looks the same:
- Desktop layout sets 3 or 4 columns (4 columns show as 3 on smaller desktop screens).
- Mobile layout sets 1 or 2 columns on phones.
Setting up recently viewed products
Turn on recording
In the theme editor, open Theme settings → Recently viewed products and turn on Enable recently viewed products.
Choose the layout
Set Desktop layout and Mobile layout in the same group.
Add the section
Open the product template (or the home page), select Add section and choose Recently viewed products.
Set the heading
Change Heading if you want another title, then save.
Check it on the storefront
Open a few product pages in your store, then go back to a page with the section: the products you viewed appear, newest first.
Why is the Recently viewed products section empty?
The customer has not viewed any product yet in this browser, or recording is off. Check that Enable recently viewed products is on in Theme settings → Recently viewed products, then open a product page. Customers on their first visit, and private windows, start with an empty list.
Why does a recently viewed product show an old price?
Borders saves each product card in the browser at the moment the customer views the product. If you change the price or stock later, that saved card keeps the old details until the product drops out of the list of the last 8. The product page itself always shows the current price.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Recently viewed products.
Enable recently viewed products (checkbox, default: off): Records the last 8 product pages each customer opens, in their browser. The Recently viewed products section shows them; without this setting it stays hidden.
Recently viewed products theme settings: Layout
Where to find it: Theme settings → Recently viewed products → Layout
Desktop layout (dropdown, default: 4 columns): Sets the columns of every Recently viewed products section on desktop; 4 columns show as 3 on smaller desktop screens. Options: 3 columns, 4 columns.
Mobile layout (dropdown, default: 2 columns): Sets the columns of every Recently viewed products section on phones. Options: 1 column, 2 columns.
Where to find it: Add section → Recently viewed products, then select the Recently viewed products section.
This section needs to have the functionality enabled in Theme Settings. It will show up only after users visit at least a product page.

Heading (text box, default: "Recently viewed products"): The section title. The section shows only after the customer has viewed at least one product, and needs Enable recently viewed products in Theme settings.
Hide heading border (checkbox, default: off).

Color scheme (color scheme, default: scheme_1).
