Empty space section
The Empty space section of Borders adds a block of vertical space between two sections, in three heights.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
The Empty space section adds vertical space between two sections, for example to give a hero more room before the next section. It has no content of its own.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Empty space.
Height
- Height sets the amount of space: Small, Large or Extra large.
- The space follows the theme's spacing scale, so it gets smaller on screens narrower than 1280 px and again below 1024 px.
Color and border
- Color scheme sets the background color of the space.
- Hide section bottom border is on by default, so the space shows no line below it. Turn it off to draw the section border under the space.
Why is there still a line above the empty space?
The line belongs to the section above. Turn on Hide section bottom border in that section to remove it. See General section styling.
Can I add space inside a section instead?
Yes, in the sections that accept blocks: Rich text has an Empty space block, and Flex columns and Flex grid accept the Empty space block.
