Scrolling text section
The Scrolling text sections of Borders move text, buttons and images across the screen, in a page or as a bar in the Header group.
Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.
The Scrolling text section moves a line of content endlessly across the screen, like a ticker. Borders has two sections with this name:
- The page version: large text, with buttons and images between the text.
- The Header group version: a slim bar of text above or below the header, with page visibility.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor (in a template or in the Header group), then choose Scrolling text.
The theme editor shows the right one for where you add it: in a template you get the page version, in the Header group the header version.
Scrolling text in a page
- Scroll direction sets which way the content moves: Left or Right.
- Scroll speed sets the speed, 20 to 300 (pixels per second; default 100). On screens up to 768 px wide it moves 1.5 times slower.
- Pause on mouseover stops the movement while the mouse is over it, so customers can select a button (default: on).
- Text font uses the Body or the Headings font, and Text size sets it from Small to Huge.
- Horizontal space sets the gap between the items: Regular, Large or Extra large.
- Remove inner padding lets the content touch the section edges. Color scheme and Hide section bottom border are the shared Section design settings: see General section styling.
Scrolling text in the Header group
The header version is a slim bar that shows on every page, or only on some.
- Visibility chooses the pages: All pages, Homepage only, Product pages only or All pages except the homepage.
- Scroll direction, Scroll speed and Pause on mouseover work as in the page version.
- Text size is smaller here: Extra small, Small, Regular or Large.
- Horizontal space sets the gap between the texts.
- It accepts Text blocks only and has no section heading.
- Drag it above or below the Header in the theme editor sidebar to place the bar. See Header group.
Blocks
The content repeats as often as needed to fill the screen width.
Text
- Content is the text, with bold, italic and links. Add several Text blocks for several messages in a row.
- Available in both versions.
Button
- Button label and Button link add a call to action between the texts. Open link in a new window opens it in a new tab.
- Button style (Outline or Solid) and Button hover (Accent or Invert) style it.
- The button size follows the section's Text size. Page version only.
Image
- Image adds a small picture between the texts, at its own proportions. Its height follows Text size: 60 px with Small, 90 px with Regular or Large, 120 px with Extra large and 180 px with Huge.
- Border radius rounds its corners, 0 to 100 px (default 30).
- Page version only (Borders 2.1.0 and later).
Can I show a scrolling bar only on product pages?
Yes, with the Header group version. Add Scrolling text in the Header group and set Visibility to Product pages only. The page version has no visibility setting; it shows only on the template where you add it.
Why does my scrolling text stop when I point at it?
Pause on mouseover is on. It lets customers read the text and select buttons. Turn it off to keep the text moving all the time.

Color scheme (color scheme, default: scheme_1).
Hide section bottom border (checkbox, default: off).
Remove inner padding (checkbox, default: off): Removes the inner padding so the content touches the section edges.
Text block

Content (formatted text, default: "Introduce product promotions . Write about your brand. Flash deals!"): The text of this item. Add several Text blocks for several messages in a row.
Button block
Where to find it: Scrolling text → Add block → Button
Button label (text field, default: "Call to action").
Button link (link).
Button style (dropdown, default: Outline). Options: Outline, Solid.
Button hover (dropdown). Options: Invert, Accent.
Open link in a new window (checkbox, default: off).
Image block
Where to find it: Scrolling text → Add block → Image
Image (image): A small image between the texts, shown at its own aspect ratio; its height follows Text size.
Border radius (slider 0 to 100 px, default: 30 px): Rounds the corners of this image.
Where to find it: Add section → Scrolling text, then select the Scrolling text section.
