Borders blocks

The theme blocks of Borders (Text, Button, Badge, Content group, Custom Liquid, Empty space) and the sections that accept them.

Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 3.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.

Theme blocks are small building blocks you can stack freely inside some sections: a text, a button, a badge, a group, your own code or a gap. Borders added them in version 3.0.0, together with the Flex columns section.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → a Flex columns column, or a Flex grid Text card or Media card → Add block

Theme blocks and section blocks

Borders has two kinds of blocks:

  • Section blocks belong to one section and exist only there, for example the Slide of the Vertical slider or the Price block of the product page. They are documented on their section's page.
  • Theme blocks are shared. The same Text or Button block works in every place that accepts theme blocks, with the same settings. They are documented here.

Some theme blocks can only be used in one section: Column (Flex columns), Text card and Media card (Flex grid), and the Text and Checkmark cells of the Table section. They are documented on those section pages.

Which sections accept theme blocks?

The Column of the Flex columns section and the Text card and Media card of the Flex grid section accept every theme block below, and app blocks. The Content group accepts Text, Button and Badge.

Can I add a theme block to any section?

No. Only the Flex columns and Flex grid sections accept theme blocks in Borders 3.1.0. The other sections have their own section blocks, listed on their pages.
