Blog posts section
The Blog posts section shows up to 6 articles from one blog in Split, with title, date, author and excerpt blocks and a link to the blog.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Blog posts section shows the latest articles of one blog, up to 6. The title sits in the left half of the screen and the posts are listed in the right half, each with its image.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Blog posts.
Choosing the blog and the number of posts
- Title is the heading in the left half. It can be a plain "Blog" or a call to action such as "Read our latest posts".
- Blog picks the blog the articles come from. The newest articles show first.
- Posts sets how many articles show, 1 to 6.
- Show link to blog page adds a "Visit the blog" button under the title that opens the blog.
- Heading tag sets the HTML level of the title for search engines; it does not change its size.
On screens wider than 1024 px the title half stays in place while the customer scrolls through the posts. See How Split is built for how the two halves work.
How the posts look
- Each post is a row half a screen tall, with the text on one side and the article's image on the other.
- A post without an image shows its text across the full row.
- With Posts set to 1, the post fills the full screen height on desktop, with the text centered above the image.
- Images are cropped to fill their box. See Image size recommendations.
Blocks
The blocks set what each post shows, and their order in the theme editor sidebar is the order inside each post. Each block can be added once. A new section starts with Info and Title.
Title
Shows the article title. No settings.
Info
- Show date shows the publication date (on by default).
- Show author shows the author's name (off by default).
Excerpt
Shows the start of the article: the excerpt if the article has one, otherwise its content, cut to 15 words for posts with an image and 30 words for posts without. No settings.
Mobile layout
- On screens 640 px wide and narrower, the posts turn into a horizontal swipe slider with dots, and the text sits over the image.
- Mobile layout → Text sets the text color over the image, and Image overlay lays a color over the image at 30 percent opacity. Both apply only at 640 px and narrower. Leave them transparent to keep the theme colors.
Why does the section show sample posts?
Because no blog is selected, or the selected blog has no published articles. Select a blog in Blog that has at least one published article, and the sample posts are replaced.
Can I show the number of comments?
No. The Blog posts section shows only the title, date, author and excerpt. The number of comments shows on the article itself: see Article page.
How do I change the "Visit the blog" text?
The button text is theme content, not a section setting. Change it in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content, where all storefront texts of Split are listed.
