Collection list section
The Collection list section shows collections as image boxes in Split, with a title and text alignment, and custom images per collection.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Collection list section shows collections as image tiles that link to each collection. The title sits in the left half of the screen and the collection tiles fill the right half.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Collection list.
Adding collections
- Add one Collection block per collection. There is no limit on the number of blocks.
- The layout of the right half changes with the number of blocks:
- One collection fills the whole half, a full screen tall.
- Two or more collections stack one under the other, each tile half a screen tall.
- Each tile shows the collection name over its image and links to the collection.
Blocks
Collection
- Collection picks the collection the tile shows and links to.
- Image replaces the collection's own image in this tile. Without it, the tile uses the collection image set in Shopify admin; a collection with no image shows a placeholder drawing.
Text alignment and colors
- Title is the heading in the left half.
- Text alignment places the collection name inside every tile: left, center or right, at the top, middle or bottom. Default: Left bottom.
- Custom colors → Background and Text replace the theme colors for this section only. Leave them transparent to keep the theme colors.
- Show image overlay lays the background color over the images at 40 percent opacity, so the names are easier to read on busy photos.
On screens wider than 1024 px the title half stays in place while the customer scrolls the tiles. On phones and on tablets held upright, the title comes first and the tiles follow at full width, half a screen tall each.
How do I get a different layout?
Add several Collection list sections one after the other. For example, one section with a single collection gives a full-height tile, and the next section with three collections gives three stacked tiles. Each section has its own title and colors.
How many collections can I add?
As many as you need. The old documentation said 4, but Split 5.1.0 has no limit on Collection blocks. Every tile is half a screen tall, so a long list makes the right half long; split it into several sections if the title should come back.
Why are my collection images cropped?
Because every tile is filled edge to edge with its image. The tile size depends on the screen, so keep the subject in the center of the image. See Image size recommendations.
