Scrolling text section
The Scrolling text section moves a line of text across a Split page, like a promotion banner, with speed, direction, size and borders.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 4.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Scrolling text section moves one line of text across the page without stopping, for example a promotion, a shipping offer or a brand line. It works like a promotion banner between two sections.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Scrolling text.
Adding text
Select Add block inside the section and choose Scrolling item. Each item is one piece of text in the line; the items follow each other and the line repeats itself so it always fills the width of the screen.
Scrolling item
- Scrolling text is the text of the item. It supports bold, italic and links; links are underlined.
Speed, direction and size
- Scroll direction moves the text to the Left (default) or to the Right.
- Scroll speed (20 to 300, default 100) is the speed in pixels per second. On screens 768 px wide and narrower the text moves at two thirds of that speed.
- Pause on mouseover (on by default) stops the text while the mouse pointer is over it, so customers can select a link.
- Horizontal space sets the gap between the items: Regular, Large or Extra large.
- Text size sets the size of the text and the height of the band: Small, Regular (default) or Large.
The text stops moving while the section is out of view and starts again when it scrolls back in.
Borders and colors
- Top border (on by default) and Bottom border draw a thin line above or below the band, in the grid border color from Colors theme settings.
- Background and Text under Custom colors replace the theme colors for this section only. Leave them transparent to keep the theme colors.
Can I put the scrolling text above the header?
Yes. Scrolling text can be added to the Header group as well as to page templates and the Footer group. In the theme editor, select Add section in the Header group, choose Scrolling text and drag it above Header. Full-height sections then start below it, because Split measures the screen height without the whole Header group.
How do I separate the messages with a symbol?
Type the symbol into the Scrolling text of each item, for example "Free shipping ✦". The theme adds only space between items, no separator.
