Countdown banner section

The Countdown banner section shows a timer that counts down to a date you set in Split, over a background image, with heading, text and button.

Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.

The Countdown banner section shows a clock that counts down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to a date you set, with a heading, text and a button over a background image. Use it for a sale or a launch. The Cuber preset uses it on the home page and in its sale page template.

Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Countdown banner.

Setting the end date

Add the section

Select Add section and choose Countdown banner. It starts with a Text, a Heading, a Countdown clock and a Button block.

Open the Countdown clock block

Select the Countdown clock block in the theme editor sidebar.

Set the date

Set End year, End month and End day. The default year is 2023, so a new clock shows zeros until you change it.

Set the hour and time zone

Set End hour (0 to 24) and pick the Timezone the hour is in, as a GMT offset. For example, a sale that ends at midnight in Paris in winter is End hour 24 and GMT +1:00.

Save and check

Select Save and check the clock in the preview. Each customer sees the same remaining time, whatever their own time zone.

Timezone is a fixed GMT offset and does not follow daylight saving time. For a date in summer, pick the summer offset of your city (Paris in July is GMT +2:00).

  • Banner height: Half is half the screen height; Full height fills the screen below the header (75 percent of the screen height on screens 480 px wide and narrower). Default: Full height.
  • Text alignment puts the content and the clock on the left, in the center or on the right.
  • Background image fills the banner behind the content and is cropped to its size. Keep the subject in the center.
  • Custom colors → Text sets the color of the text, the clock digits and the button. Background sets the banner color; with a Background image, it is also laid over the image at 40 percent opacity. Leave them transparent to keep the theme colors.

Blocks

The section takes up to 5 blocks, shown in their sidebar order.

Heading

  • Heading is the title text.
  • Heading size: Small, Regular or Large. Default: Large.
  • Heading tag sets the HTML level for search engines; it does not change the size. One per section.

Text

  • Text is a paragraph of formatted text.
  • Text size: Small, Regular or Large. You can add several Text blocks.

Button

  • Button label and Button link add one button. One per section.

Countdown clock

  • End year (2020 to 2029), End month, End day, End hour and Timezone set the end of the countdown. One per section.

What happens when the countdown ends?

The banner stays on the page and the clock stops at 00 days, 00 hours, 00 minutes and 00 seconds. Split does not hide the section by itself. Hide it with the eye icon in the theme editor sidebar, or remove it, once the sale is over.

Why does my clock show only zeros?

Because the end date is in the past. A new section's clock is set to 2023, so set End year, End month and End day in the Countdown clock block. The end year can be 2020 to 2029.

Can I set a date in 2030 or later?

No. Split does not support an End year after 2029. Use a date up to the end of 2029.
