Image section
The Image section shows one image across the full width of a Split page without cropping: the section takes the height of the image.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Image section shows one image across the full width of the page without cropping. The section takes the height of the image, so the whole picture is always visible.
Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Image.
Adding the image
- Image sets the picture. Its shape decides the section height: a 3:1 banner gives a short strip, a square image a tall one.
- Link makes the whole image clickable, for example to a collection.
- Open link in a new window appears once Link is set.
Unlike most Split sections, the Image section is not measured in screen heights. It is the section to use when an image must not be cropped, such as a banner with text inside the picture.
Split serves the image up to 2100 px wide. A wider upload is fine, it is scaled down.
Can I add text or a button over the image?
No. The Image section shows only the image. For text over an image, use Images with text, the Slideshow or the Rich text section.
Can I use a different image on mobile?
No. Split does not have a mobile image setting in the Image section. The same image scales down to the screen width. For a separate mobile image, use the Image with hotspots section without hotspots, which has a Mobile image setting.
