Article page
The Article page template of Split sets the article image layout, date, author and comments, sharing buttons, tags and links to other posts.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Article page template shows one blog article: the title, date and author on the left half of the screen, the article content on the right half, then sharing buttons, links to other articles and comments. Every article uses it unless you assign the article another template.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and select Blog posts → Default blog post. The template has one section, Article page.
Layout
Layout chooses what the left half shows on screens wider than 1024 px. The left half stays in place while the customer scrolls the content on the right.
- Title on left: Image behind the text (default): the title, date and author sit over the article's featured image.
- Title on left: Don't show image: the title, date and author on a plain background. The featured image is not shown.
- Title on right: Image with no text: the left half shows only the featured image; the title, date and author move to the right half, above the content. An article without an image falls back to the title on the left.
On phones and on tablets held upright, the title area becomes a full-width row above the content, with the image if the layout uses one.
- Image overlay background sets a color laid over the featured image, so the title stays readable.
- Image overlay text sets the color of the title, date and author over the image.
Leave both transparent to keep the theme colors. The Cuber preset uses white text over a black overlay.
Article information
- Show date shows the publication date. Default: on.
- Show author shows "by" and the author's name. Default: on.
- Show comments number shows the number of comments, linked to the comments under the article. Default: off. It shows only when comments are enabled for the blog.
Blocks
The blocks show under the article content, in the order you set. Each one can be added once.
Social share buttons
Adds share links for X, Facebook and Pinterest. Pinterest shares the article's featured image. It has no settings.
Adjacent posts links
Adds Previous article and Next article links to the neighbouring articles of the same blog. It has no settings.
Article tags
Lists the article's tags after "Tagged with:". Each tag opens the blog filtered by that tag. It shows nothing when the article has no tags, and it has no settings.
The Social share buttons and Adjacent posts links blocks are in the default template of every preset; add Article tags with Add block.
How do I turn on comments?
Comments are controlled by Shopify, not by Split. In Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts → Manage blogs, open the blog and choose whether comments are allowed, moderated or off.
- When comments are on, Split shows them under the article, 10 per page, with a "Leave a comment" form.
- With moderated comments, customers see a note that their comment waits for approval.
Why is the article image not showing?
Because Layout is set to Title on left: Don't show image, or the article has no featured image. Add the image in Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts, in the article's Image box.

Layout (dropdown, default: Title on left: Image behind the text): Sets the left half on screens wider than 1024 px: the title over the featured image, the title without the image, or the image alone with the title moved above the content on the right. On mobile devices the image will be in a full width row, but the text settings will be kept.
Image overlay background (color, default: transparent): Sets a color laid over the featured image when the title sits on it.
Image overlay text (color, default: transparent): Sets the color of the title, date and author over the featured image.
Article page section: Article information
Where to find it: Blog posts → Default blog post → Article page → Article information
Show date (checkbox, default: on).
Show author (checkbox, default: on): Shows the author's name, after "by", under the title.
Show comments number (checkbox, default: off): Shows the number of comments under the title, linked to the comments. Shown only when comments are enabled for the blog in Shopify admin.
