404 page

The 404 page template of Split is shown when a page does not exist. Its Main 404 section has no settings; you can add sections below it.

Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.

The 404 page template is shown when a customer opens a link to a page that does not exist, for example a deleted product. It shows a "Page not found" title on the left half of the screen and a short message on the right half, with two buttons:

  • Continue browsing opens the all products collection.
  • Search our store opens the search page.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and select 404 page. The template has one section, Main 404.

Does the 404 page have settings?

No. The Main 404 section has no settings. Its texts are theme content: change "Page not found", "The page you are looking for cannot be found", "Continue browsing" and "Search our store" in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content.

Can I add sections to the 404 page?

Yes. Select Add section on the 404 page template, for example a Featured collection or a Collection list under the message, to give customers somewhere to go. The breadcrumb does not show on the 404 page.

Create a URL redirect in Shopify admin. Redirects are controlled by Shopify, not by Split: a redirected link opens the new page instead of the 404 page. See Shopify's guide to URL redirects.
