Cart page
The Cart page template of Split shows the cart items and product recommendations; most cart options are in the Cart theme settings.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Cart page template is the page at /cart that lists the products in the cart, with the subtotal and the checkout button. Customers reach it from the cart icon when Theme settings → Cart → Cart type is Page, or from the "View cart" button of the cart drawer.
Where to find it: Cart → Cart items
What the cart page shows
The page has two halves on screens wider than 1024 px:
- Left half: the "Cart" title, the number of items and, when it is on, the free shipping bar. This half stays pinned while the customer scrolls.
- Right half: the cart items (image, title, options, quantity, price and a remove link), then the cart notes, the discount code field, the subtotal, the terms and conditions checkbox and the Checkout button.
On phones and on tablets held upright, the title comes first and the items below it. An empty cart shows a "Continue browsing" button.
The Cart items section has no settings of its own. Everything it shows is set in Cart theme settings:
- Show quantity selector, Media aspect ratio of the item images.
- Enable cart notes and Enable cart discounts.
- Enable terms and conditions requirement for checkout. See Requiring terms and conditions.
- Show free shipping minimum amount and the amount. See Setting up the free shipping notice.
- Show additional checkout buttons (Shop Pay, PayPal and other accelerated checkouts).
The cart drawer uses the same Cart theme settings, so the drawer and the page always match.
Product recommendations
The Product recommendations section below the cart shows 4 products under its Heading (default "You may also like"). It appears only when the cart has items.
- The products are Shopify's recommendations for the first product in the cart. Adding other products does not change them until the first item changes.
- Shopify chooses the products from your orders and product data. To choose them yourself, use Shopify's Search & Discovery app.
- To remove the recommendations, hide or remove the section in the theme editor.
- The cart drawer has its own recommendations, up to 6 products: see Product recommendations in the Cart theme settings.
Can I skip the cart page and send customers to checkout?
No, not with a theme setting. Set Cart type to Drawer to keep customers on the page they are on, and set Theme settings → Cart → Drawer cart action buttons to Show "checkout" button so the drawer goes straight to checkout.
Why are the recommendations on my cart page not related to the latest product I added?
Because the cart page recommendations are based on the first item in the cart, not the latest one. Shopify needs some order history before its recommendations become relevant; with a new store, few or no products may show.
