Search page
The Search page template of Split sets the number of results per page and turns on filters and sorting for search results.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Search page template shows the results when a customer searches your store and presses Enter, or opens /search. The search title sits on the left half of the screen and the results on the right half.
Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and select Search. The template has one section, Search results.
The suggestions that appear while a customer types in the search drawer are predictive search, set in Predictive search theme settings.
How results show
- Results are a list with a small image, the title and, for products, the price (with the compare-at price crossed out when it is higher).
- Products come first. Matching articles follow under "From the journal", then pages under "Pages".
- Above the results, a search field with Search again lets customers change their search.
- When nothing is found, the page says so and shows the search field with "Try again with a different keyword."
Search results do not use product cards, so the Product card theme settings (badges, swatches, quick buy) do not apply here.
Results per page
- Results per page sets how many results each page shows, from 12 to 248 in steps of 4. Default: 24.
- When there are more results, numbered page links show under the list.
Filters and sorting
- Enable filtering shows the filters of the Search & Discovery app for the results.
- Enable sorting lets customers sort the results.
- Image filter layout lines up filters with the image presentation in 1 column or 2 columns.
Both checkboxes are off by default. The Cuber preset turns them on in its Search template; Jagger and Looker leave them off. The Filter and sort button appears only after a search, and only when Shopify returns filters for it. It opens the same filter drawer as the collection page, where the filter setup is explained.
Can I change which products the search finds?
Partly. The order and matching of search results are controlled by Shopify, not by Split. Use the Search & Discovery app for synonyms and product boosts. For the predictive search suggestions, Predictive search theme settings add SKUs, barcodes and tags to the fields Shopify searches.
Why do I not see the filter button on the search page?
Because no search was made yet, Enable filtering and Enable sorting are both off (the default in the Jagger and Looker presets), or Shopify returned no filters for the results. Search filters are set up in the Search & Discovery app, like collection filters.
