Blog page

The Blog page template of Split lists the articles of a blog with title, date, author and excerpt, tag filtering and the number of posts per page.

Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.

The Blog page template lists the articles of a blog: the blog title on the left half of the screen, the articles stacked on the right half. Every blog uses it unless you assign the blog another blog template.

Where to find it: in the theme editor, open the page selector at the top and select Blogs → Default blog. The template has one section, Blog page.

Article list

  • Number of posts per page sets how many articles each page lists, from 2 to 24 in steps of 2. Default: 8. Numbered page links show under the list when the blog has more.
  • On screens wider than 1024 px, each article is a row half a screen tall: the text on the left of the row, the article's featured image on the right. An article without an image uses the full row for its text.
  • A blog with a single article shows it one screen tall, the text above the image.
  • On phones and on tablets held upright, the blog title sits above the articles and the articles are full width.

The blog title and the articles come from Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts.

Blocks

The Blog page section has three blocks. Each one can be added once; drag them to change the order of the article text, or hide one with the eye icon.

Title

Shows the article title. It has no settings.

Info

  • Show date shows the publication date. Default: on.
  • Show author shows the author's name. Default: off in the block, on in the Cuber preset's template.

Excerpt

Shows the article's excerpt, or the start of its content when the excerpt is empty: 15 words when the article has an image, 30 words when it has none. It has no settings.

Filtering by tags

Turn on Enable filtering by tags to show tag buttons under the blog title: All, then one button per tag used in the blog. Selecting a tag lists only the articles with that tag. Default: off.

Tags are added to each article in Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts.

Mobile layout

On screens 640 px wide and narrower, the article image fills the whole row and the text sits over it.

  • Text sets the color of the article text over the image.
  • Image overlay sets a color laid over the image, at 30 percent opacity, so the text stays readable.

The Cuber preset uses white text over a black overlay. Leave both transparent to keep the theme colors.

Why don't I see the article date or author?

Because the Info block is hidden or removed, or Show date and Show author are off in it. Select Blog page in the theme editor, then the Info block. If the block is missing, add it with Add block.

Can I show the number of comments on the blog page?

No. Split shows the comments count only on the article itself. Turn on Show comments number on the Article page. Comments must also be enabled for the blog in Shopify admin.
