Quick view
The Quick view template of Split sets the popup that opens from quick buy on product cards: image fit, variant selector, swatches and disclosures.
Applies to: Split 5.1.0 and later. Added in: Split 4.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Split 5.1.0.
The Quick view template sets the Quick view popup: a small product window that opens over the page when a customer selects the quick buy button of a product with options. Customers choose a variant and add it to the cart without leaving the collection or home page.
Where to find it: Products → quick-view → Quick view
To open it in the theme editor, select the template menu at the top of the editor, then Products → quick-view.
When the Quick view opens
The quick buy button appears on product cards when Theme settings → Product card → Enable quick buy is on (default). It shows when the customer moves the mouse over the card on desktop, and always on touch screens. What happens next depends on the product:
- A product with one variant is added to the cart directly. With Theme settings → Cart → Cart type set to Drawer, the cart drawer opens.
- A product with options (size, color) opens the Quick view popup.
- A sold out product has no quick buy button.
The same quick buy button is used in the cart drawer recommendations (Theme settings → Cart → Product recommendations → Enable quick buy) and in the Complementary products block of the product page.
The Quick view popup shows:
- the product title and price, with the compare-at price and unit price;
- one image: the image of the selected variant, or the product's featured image;
- the variant picker;
- the disclosures, when Show disclosures is on;
- the Add to cart button and a "Visit product page" button that opens the full product page.
When the customer adds the product to the cart from the Quick view popup, it closes and the cart drawer opens (with Cart type Drawer).
Image
- Fit images inside container shows the whole image inside the square image area. Off (default), the image is cropped to fill it.
Variants and swatches
- Variants selector type: Blocks (default) shows each option value as a button; Dropdown shows one list per option.
- Show color swatches (Blocks only) shows color options as swatches, in the same way as the product page. See Setting up color swatches for how swatches are made.
- Handle unavailable variants: Show (default) keeps sold out combinations selectable and marked as unavailable; Disable greys them out; Hide removes them.
These settings are separate from the Variant picker block of the product page, so the Quick view popup can use a different style.
Disclosures and gift cards
- Show disclosures shows the product's Shopify product disclosures, under Title (default "Disclosures"). Disclosures are set at product level in Shopify admin; see Showing product disclosures.
- Show recipient information form for gift card products lets customers send a gift card product to a recipient, with a name, a message and a send date.
Why is there no quantity selector or dynamic checkout button in the Quick view popup?
Because the Quick view popup is a short version of the product page. It adds one item at a time and has no quantity field, no dynamic checkout buttons and no other product blocks. Customers change the quantity in the cart, or open the full product page with "Visit product page".
Can I add blocks to the Quick view popup?
No. The Quick view template has one section with fixed content and no blocks, so apps and custom blocks cannot be added to it. Place them on the product page instead.
How do I turn off quick buy?
Turn off Enable quick buy in Theme settings → Product card → Quick buy. Product cards then show no quick buy button, and customers open the product page to buy. The cart recommendations and the Complementary products block have their own Enable quick buy checkbox.
