Sections

Sections in Highlight: every section you can add with Add section, grouped by category, with the page that documents each one.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

Sections are the building blocks of every Highlight page. You can add as many sections as you wish to the home page and the other page templates, add the same section several times with different settings, and rearrange them with drag and drop.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → Add section.

Adding a section

Open the page

In the theme editor, choose the page to edit from the menu at the top, for example Home page or a page template.

Add the section

Select Add section in the sidebar, where you want the section to go. The sections are grouped by category: Products, Collections, Storytelling, Media & galleries, Content, Promotions, Forms and Custom.

Choose it

Select the section (or one of its presets) in the list. It appears on the page with sample content.

Move it

Drag the section by its handle in the sidebar to change its place on the page.

Set it up and save

Select the section to open its settings and blocks, then select Save.

To hide a section without losing its settings, select the eye icon next to it in the sidebar. See How Highlight is built for the Header group, the Footer group and the Popups section, which are on every page.

Which sections are new in Highlight 4?

Highlight 4.0.0 added the two Flex sections, built with Shopify theme blocks:

  • Flex cards: a row of cards with media on top and your own blocks below.
  • Flex grid: media cards and text cards in a grid of columns and rows, with four presets (Fullwidth media with text, Flex grid, Media collage and Text cards collage).

Highlight 3.1.0 added Image with hotspots and Image comparison (released as Before / after slider). Highlight 3.0.0 added Scrolling text, Scrolling images, Slideshow: horizontal and Text columns with icons. See What's new.

Add section presets

Every entry in the Add section list, with its category and the page that documents it. Four presets (Fullwidth media with text, Flex grid, Media collage, Text cards collage) add the same Flex grid section with different starting cards.

Why is a section missing from the Add section list?

Some sections are not in the list because they belong to one template or group. The product page's Product information, the collection page and the other page templates have their own main section; the Header and Footer sections live in their groups; the Popups section is on every page. See How Highlight is built.
