Gallery section

The Gallery section shows images in Highlight's random-size, random-position layout, each with a heading, caption and optional link.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

The Gallery section shows your images in Highlight's flexible layout: images of different sizes and positions, each with an optional heading, caption and link. Use it for a lookbook, a portfolio or a gallery page.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → Add section → Gallery (Media & galleries category). The bundled gallery page template already contains one; see Page.

  • Heading shows a small title above the images. Default: "Image gallery".
  • Heading tag sets the HTML level of the heading for search engines.
  • The section starts with four Image blocks. Add as many as you need.

How the layout works

The image sizes follow a pattern of five images that repeats, and every second round is mirrored. So the layout changes when you add or remove an image: a lone image at the end of a round can take the full width.

  • Images keep their own proportions; nothing is cropped.
  • On tablets and phones the images get wider and fewer fit in a row.

Blocks

Image

  • Image picks the picture.
  • Heading shows a short title under the image. Default: "Image".
  • Caption shows a line of rich text under the heading.
  • Link makes the image, its heading and its caption one link, for example to a product or a collection.

Can I make all images the same size?

No. The Gallery section always uses its mixed layout. For even images, use the Images with text slider section, the Scrolling images section, or a Flex grid section with Media cards of the same size.

Because each image's size depends on its position in the pattern of five. Adding or removing one image moves the images after it to new positions and sizes. Drag the blocks into a different order until the layout suits you.
