Highlight presets

Highlight presets: compare Highlight, Single and Brush, what each theme style changes, and how to switch without losing content.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

Highlight comes in three presets: Highlight, Single and Brush. This page compares them, explains what a preset changes and shows how to switch from one to another.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Theme style

Compare the presets

All three presets install the same theme files: the same sections, blocks, settings and templates. A preset only selects one of the three theme styles. The theme style sets the three colors, the fonts and some other Theme settings.

PresetLookColors (accent / text / background)Fonts (headings / body / testimonials)

The values are those of each theme style in Highlight 4.1.0. Each preset page lists the other settings it changes.

What a preset changes

Switching style is a Shopify theme editor feature. It replaces your current Theme settings with the values saved in the new style.

  • It changes the Colors, Typography and Layout values, and some Product card, Cart and Embellishments settings.
  • It does not change the sections and blocks on your pages, your templates, or the content of your products and pages.

All three styles share these values: Media aspect ratio Natural, Cart type Drawer, Enable cart notes and Show additional checkout buttons on, Show color swatches on.

Switching style overwrites the Theme settings you changed yourself, for example your colors and fonts. Duplicate the theme in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes before you switch, so you can go back.

Switching to another preset

Duplicate your theme

Open Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes. On your Highlight theme, open the … menu and select Duplicate. Work on the copy.

Open Theme style

Open the copy in the theme editor and open Theme settings → Theme style. Theme settings is the gear icon in the editor sidebar.

Choose the style

Select Highlight, Single or Brush. The preview shows the new colors and fonts.

Save and publish

Select Save. Check the main pages, then publish the copy from Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes.

You do not need to install another preset from the Shopify Theme Store. Every preset installs the same theme files, so choosing the theme style is enough.

Do I lose my content when I switch preset?

No. Your sections, blocks, templates, products and pages stay as they are. Only the Theme settings values change: colors, fonts, spacing and the product card, cart and embellishment options listed on each preset page.

Why does my store not look like the demo after I switch?

Because the demo stores have their own content and extra templates, which a theme style does not install. A style changes only Theme settings values. Every preset includes the same templates, for example the product page (Default product, alternate and quick-view) and the pages (Default page, contact, faq, gallery, story). To build a page like one in a demo, add the sections to a template in the theme editor.
