Slideshow: horizontal section

The Slideshow: horizontal section shows up to 8 full-width slides in Kingdom, each with an image, a mobile image, text and a button.

Applies to: Kingdom 6.2.0 and later. Added in: Kingdom 2.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Kingdom 6.2.0.

The Slideshow: horizontal section shows full-width slides that customers move through sideways. Each slide has an image, an optional mobile image, a caption, a heading, a subheading and a button.

Where to find it: select Add section in the theme editor, then choose Slideshow: horizontal (Add section category Media & galleries).

Adding slides

Each slide is an Image block; the section holds up to 8. Dots under the slides show the position, and customers swipe or drag to change slides. The slideshow does not move on its own.

Add a slide

In the Slideshow: horizontal section, select Add block → Image.

Choose the images

Upload the Image, 1920 x 1040 px for a full-screen slide. Upload a Mobile image in portrait format if the desktop image loses too much on phones; it replaces Image on screens 948 px wide or less.

Write the text

Fill in Caption (a small line above the heading), Heading and Subheading. Leave any of them empty to hide it.

Set Link. With a Button label, the link is on a button with an arrow; without one, the slide's text block becomes the link.

Set the colors

Set Custom text color for the text and button, and a Background overlay to darken or tint the image behind the text. Then select Save.

Each slide also has its own Heading tag (default H2). Use H1 only on the first slide of the home page, and only if no other H1 is on the page.

Height and text

  • Desktop slider height sets the slideshow height: Medium (60 percent of the screen height), Large (80 percent, the default) or Full (the whole screen).
  • Horizontal mobile slider height sets the height on screens 948 px wide or less: Small, Medium (the default), Large or Full.
  • Heading size sets the heading size of every slide: Regular, Large or Extra large.
  • Text alignment places the text in one of nine positions on every slide (default Left bottom).
  • Background overlay lays its color over the slide image at 36 percent opacity.
  • Enable inner content spacing (default off) adds side padding around the slideshow. Off, it runs edge to edge. See General section settings.

The images fill the slide and are cropped around the focal point you set on them in Shopify.

Why are my slides cropped?

Because a slide fills a fixed share of the screen height across the whole width, and screens have many shapes. Every full-screen image is cropped on some screens. Use images of 1920 x 1040 px, keep text and faces away from the edges, set a focal point on the image, and add a portrait Mobile image for phones. See Recommended image sizes.

Can the slideshow change slides automatically?

No. Kingdom does not have an autoplay setting for the Slideshow: horizontal section. Customers change slides with the dots or by swiping.
