Shopify basics for Local stores
Shopify basics for Local stores: products, collections, sale prices, inventory locations, templates, metafields and gift card recipients.

If you are new to Shopify, these Shopify Help Center articles explain the store features that Local builds on. They describe Shopify, not Local settings; each entry says where Local uses the feature.
Products and collections
- How do I add and update products? Adding and updating products.
- How do I group products? Creating product collections. Local shows collections on collection pages and in sections such as Featured collection and Collection list.
- How do I edit many products at once? Bulk edit your products.
Sale prices
- How do I put a product on sale? Setting sale prices for products. Local shows the discount badge when the compare-at price is higher than the price, see Product badges theme settings.
Inventory at locations
- How do I assign stock to my stores? Assigning inventory to locations. Local's store selector and pickup availability read this stock, for locations that offer local pickup. See Store selector section.

Product templates
- How do I give different products different layouts? Assigning templates. In Local you create a template in the theme editor, for example a product template with the pre-order button label, then assign it to products. See Product page.

Metafields
- How do I store extra product information? Using metafields. Local reads metafields for nutrition tables, product meters, icons and swatches, see Product attribute blocks and Variant swatches.
- How do I show information that changes with the variant? Show variant metafields on the product page.
Gift card recipients
- How do I let customers send a gift card to someone else? Gift card recipient fields. In Local, turn on Show recipient information form for gift card products in the Buy buttons block of the product page, see Product variant and buy blocks. The page the recipient opens is the Gift card page.
