Cookie consent popup
Krown themes have a cookie popup that asks customers to accept or decline tracking. How it works with Shopify's customer privacy settings and cookie banner.
Applies to: All Krown themes. Last checked: 2026-10-13.
Every Krown theme has a built-in cookie consent popover: a short message with an Accept and a Decline button that lets customers accept or decline tracking. The answer goes to Shopify, which then collects analytics and marketing data only if the customer accepted.
Where to find it: the place differs per theme, see Where is the cookie popover in my theme?
How the cookie popover works
- The popover shows the title "Cookies", a short message and two buttons, "Accept all cookies" and "Decline all cookies".
- Accept turns on analytics, marketing and preferences tracking for that customer. Decline turns all three off. The theme sends the answer to Shopify's customer privacy system.
- The answer is saved in the customer's browser, so the popover does not show again on that browser.
- Change the texts in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content (search for "cookies").
Where is the cookie popover in my theme?
- Local, Combine and Highlight: the Popups section → Cookies block.
- Split: the Cookies section in the Overlay group. It is hidden by default: show it with the eye icon.
- Kingdom: the Cookies section, with the setting Show cookies notice.
- Borders: the Popovers section in the Overlay group → Cookies block.
- Seventh: the Popovers section → Cookie consent block. See Popovers section.
Set up the cookie popover
Choose where consent is required
Open Shopify admin → Settings → Customer privacy → Cookie banner. Under Regions, add the regions where customers must give consent before non-essential data is collected (to edit them yourself, first turn off Use automated settings), then Save.
Choose one banner
Decide whether customers see Shopify's cookie banner or the theme's popover. Use one, not both: remove Shopify's banner in Settings → Customer privacy → Cookie banner (the … menu → Remove cookie banner) when you use the theme's popover.
Add the theme's popover
In the theme editor, add the cookies block or section of your theme (see the list above), set its colors and Save.
Test it in a private window
Open your store in a private browser window. The popover appears once; after you accept or decline, it stays hidden on that browser.
The theme's popover shows to every customer who has not answered yet, in every country. It does not check Shopify's consent regions. To ask for consent only where the law requires it, or per category, use Shopify's banner or a consent app, see Cookie banner apps for GDPR compliance.
Why do I see two cookie banners?
Because Shopify's own cookie banner and the theme's popover are both on. Shopify controls its banner, not the theme. Keep one: remove Shopify's banner in Shopify admin → Settings → Customer privacy → Cookie banner, or remove the theme's cookies block or section.
Why does the cookie popover not appear?
You have already answered it on this browser, or it is not added in the theme. The answer is saved in the browser, so test in a private window. Check that the cookies block or section is added and visible in the theme editor (in Kingdom, that Show cookies notice is on).
