Understand your store speed
What Shopify's store speed report measures, how much your theme and apps affect it, and what you can do to make your store faster.
Applies to: All Krown themes. Last checked: 2026-10-13.
Shopify measures how fast your store loads for real customers and shows it in its web performance reports. This page explains what the reports measure, how much the theme and your apps weigh, and what you can do.
Where to find it: Shopify admin → Analytics → Reports (web performance reports); a summary is also on Online Store → Themes
Where do I see my store speed in Shopify?
In Shopify's web performance reports: in Analytics → Reports, search for "web performance". Shopify's store speed report explains each one.
The reports use three Core Web Vitals, measured on real visits to your store:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how fast the main content loads.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how fast the page reacts when a customer taps or clicks.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): how much the page jumps around while it loads.
Data appears only when your store is open to the public (no password), and can take up to 36 hours to update.
Is my store speed important?
Yes. Speed affects the shopping experience, your conversion rate, and how easily customers find your store: search engines prefer faster sites.
Speed is not the only thing that counts. Some of the most successful stores have average speed. A page with only text would load very fast but sell nothing. You may need to trade a little speed for features that bring more sales.
Which other tools measure my store speed?
PageSpeed Insights by Google tests any page of your store and lists what slows it down. It shows two results: real visits (when Google has enough data) and a lab test. The lab score changes from one run to the next, so compare several runs.
Is my theme making my store slow?
Rarely on its own. Your store is made of theme code, apps, scripts, images, videos, sliders, social feeds and analytics, from the theme developer, app developers and Shopify. Every theme on the Shopify Theme Store must pass Shopify's performance requirements, and Krown works on loading times in every release.
In Krown's experience, apps weigh most. Each app can add its own scripts and styles to every page. That does not mean you should remove all of them: keep an app that brings sales or that your business needs, and ask its developer whether it can load faster.
What can I do to improve my store speed?
- Update your theme to the latest version. See Update your Shopify theme.
- Turn off theme features you do not need, such as loading animations or social share buttons.
- Review your apps: keep the ones that matter, and uninstall the rest.
- After you uninstall an app, check that it left no code behind in your theme. Ask the app developer to remove it.
- Use images in the size you need, see Optimize images and improve SEO.
- Read Shopify's tips on improving your store speed, or hire a Shopify expert from the Shopify Partner Directory.
Speed matters, but do not spend time and money chasing a perfect score at the cost of the rest of your business.
