Product review apps

Krown themes do not collect product reviews themselves: a review app does. This page compares seven review apps that Krown tested with its themes, and explains how the theme shows their star ratings on product cards.

Krown tested each app in 2023-12 on two points:

• Design: how the review widget fits a Krown theme, and whether the app fills the theme's own star rating on product cards.
• Performance: how many files the app adds to the page, tested with the basic product rating only. More widgets and features load more files.

App plans and prices change often. Check the current plan on each app's Shopify App Store listing.

How the theme shows review stars on product cardsCopy Anchor Link

Local, Combine, Borders, Split, Highlight and Kingdom have a Rating app setting in Theme settings → Product card → Product rating. Select the app you use:

• Loox, Air Reviews and Rapid Reviews: the theme reads the app's rating and draws its own stars.
• Judge.me and Okendo: the theme reads Shopify's standard product rating, which these apps fill.
• Stamped, Yotpo, Ali Reviews and Klaviyo: the theme places the app's own star widget, which the app styles and loads.

Highlight and Kingdom also need Show rating turned on. Klaviyo is in the list of Local, Combine and Borders only, and Okendo is not in the list of Highlight and Kingdom. Seventh shows ratings with the Star rating block, which reads Shopify's standard product rating: use an app that fills it. See Star rating block.

It depends on what matters most for your store: price, design, features or speed. Krown's 2023-12 scores, in the order of the tests:

"Supports theme's rating badge" is the 2023 result. Current theme versions show Stamped and Ali Reviews stars on product cards too, with the app's own widget (see the section above).

LooxCopy Anchor Link

Loox is one of the most popular review apps, with many features from the first plan.

• Design: clean, and fits any theme well. The reviews section has many design options, and the review form is pleasant to use. It fills the theme's own rating on product cards.
• Performance: one JavaScript file of 34 KB. More widgets add more.

Air ReviewsCopy Anchor Link

Air Reviews was free when Krown tested it, and the fastest and simplest way to start with reviews. It has fewer options than the others.

• Design: two layouts, ready-made color schemes, and every color can be changed. It fills the theme's own rating on product cards.
• Performance: 15 files, 337 KB in total.

On 2026-10-13 the Shopify App Store listing of Air Reviews said the app is not currently available. Check the listing before you plan on it.

Judge.meCopy Anchor Link

Judge.me is a popular, solid choice, with a free plan that suits stores on a small budget.

• Design: looks a bit dated, and the free plan lets you change only the main color. It can look separate from the theme in some designs. It fills the theme's own rating on product cards.
• Performance: 8 JavaScript files (100 KB) and 2 CSS files (10 KB).

StampedCopy Anchor Link

Stamped is another popular review app.

• Design: many layouts and customization options, but its admin is harder to find your way around than the others.
• Performance: 12 files, 100 KB in total, and it also loads jQuery. In Krown's tests the widget took long to appear on the storefront.

YotpoCopy Anchor Link

Yotpo works well for small stores.

• Design: clean and simple, with display options for colors, fonts and layouts even on the free plan. It may not match your theme at first, but you can adjust it.
• Performance: well optimized, so the widget shows quickly, but it loads 25 files of almost 2 MB by default. Excluding the custom fonts reduces this.

Ali ReviewsCopy Anchor Link

Ali Reviews is popular with dropshipping stores because of its integrations.

• Design: clean and tidy. The widget fits the store well without any customization.
• Performance: over 80 files, 376 KB in total. If speed matters most to you, choose another app.

Rapid ReviewsCopy Anchor Link

Rapid Reviews was the cheapest paid app Krown tried. It handles reviews and questions.

• Design: the widget looks dated and has few options, and the review form opens on a third-party page. It fills the theme's own rating on product cards.
• Performance: one JavaScript file of 11 KB. The best choice if speed is your main concern.

Why do my product cards show no stars?Copy Anchor Link

The Rating app setting does not match your app, the stars are hidden by a display setting, or the product has no reviews yet. Check these in Theme settings → Product card → Product rating:

• Rating app is the app you use.
• Highlight and Kingdom: Show rating is on (off by default).
• Borders and Split: Rating display (desktop) is set to Always visible to show stars without hovering (default: Show on hover), and Show on mobile is on to show them on phones (off by default).

Some apps also need their own app embed turned on in the theme editor. Contact the app's support if the stars still do not appear.
