SEO and performance theme settings

The SEO and performance theme settings in Local control microdata, product breadcrumbs, drawer scrollbars, image animations and link preloading.

Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.

The SEO & performance settings control the structured data Local adds for search engines, the collection names in product breadcrumbs, two accessibility options and link preloading.

Where to find it: Theme settings → SEO & performance

SEO

  • Disable microdata schema removes the structured data Local adds to every page: the store (WebSite) data and the breadcrumb data. Turn it on only when an SEO app adds the same data, so search engines do not see it twice.
  • Improve product breadcrumb navigation (on by default) opens products from a collection under that collection's address, so the product page breadcrumb shows the collection name. The canonical address of the product stays the same, so search engines still see one page per product.

Accessibility

  • Show drawers scrollbar (on desktop) shows a visible scrollbar in drawers, such as the cart drawer and the mobile menu, on desktop screens.
  • Disable all image animations turns off the fade-in and zoom effects of images, for customers sensitive to motion or for a calmer store.

Performance

  • Preload links on hover starts loading a page as soon as the customer moves the mouse over its link, so the page seems to open faster.

In Local 4.2.1, turning off Preload links on hover stops the preloading on the cart page only. Every other page keeps preloading links.

Should I disable the microdata schema?

Only if an SEO app adds its own structured data for your store and breadcrumbs. Two sets of the same data can confuse search engines. Product and article structured data is not affected by this setting.

Does Improve product breadcrumb navigation create duplicate pages?

No. The product opens at a collection address such as /collections/coffee/products/espresso-blend, but the page's canonical link points to the product's own address. Search engines treat both addresses as one page.
