Quick view

The Quick view template sets what Highlight's quick buy popup shows: media, product header, variant picker, disclosures and buy buttons.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 3.1.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

The Quick view popup opens from the "Choose options" button on product cards, so customers can pick a variant and add the product to the cart without leaving the page. Its content is set in the Quick view template, which has one section with fixed parts and no blocks.

Where to find it: open Products → quick-view in the theme editor and select the Quick view section. The popup itself is turned on with Theme settings → Product card → Enable quick buy.

How Quick buy works

  • With Enable quick buy on, every available product in product cards gets a button on its image.
  • A product without variants gets "Add to cart": it goes straight to the cart, and the cart drawer opens (or the cart page, when Cart type is Page).
  • A product with variants gets "Choose options": it opens this popup.
  • Sold-out products get no button.

See Product card theme settings.

Setting up the Quick view popup

Turn on Quick buy

Open Theme settings → Product card and turn on Enable quick buy. It is on in the Highlight style and off in Single and Brush.

Open the Quick view template

In the template menu at the top of the theme editor, choose Products → quick-view, then select the Quick view section.

Choose what the popup shows

Set the Media, Product header, Variant picker, Disclosures and Buy buttons settings, then select Save.

Test it on a product card

Open a collection page and select "Choose options" on a product with variants. The popup opens with your settings.

Media

  • Media aspect ratio sets the shape of the product images in the popup. Uncropped: Natural keeps each image's own shape.
  • Enable video looping plays product videos in a loop.

The popup has no image zoom.

Product header

Show vendor, Show product rating, Show tax information, Show SKU and Show BARCODE add those details under the title and price. The rating comes from the app chosen in Theme settings → Product card → Rating app.

Variant picker

  • Variants selector type shows the options as Blocks or Dropdown menus.
  • Show color swatches turns color options into swatches, with Blocks only. See Color swatches.
  • Inventory notification shows the stock of the selected variant: never, below 5, or always. It needs inventory tracking.

Disclosures

Show disclosures shows the product's Shopify disclosures in the popup, as the Disclosures block does on the product page. Added in Highlight 4.1.0.

Buy buttons

  • Show quantity selector adds a quantity field next to the add to cart button.
  • Show recipient information form for gift card products lets customers send a gift card to someone else.

The popup has no dynamic checkout buttons and no pre-order label; those are product page options.

When does Quick buy open the popup instead of adding to cart?

When the product has variants. A product with more than one option value gets "Choose options", which opens the popup so the customer can choose. A product with a single variant gets "Add to cart", which adds it straight away. Products that are sold out get no button.

Why does an app block not show in the popup?

Because the Quick view template has no blocks, so app blocks cannot be added to it. Apps that place a block on the product page, for example a reviews or a size chart app, show only on the full product page.

Can I add a Collapsible tab or the description to the popup?

No. The Quick view section has fixed parts only: media, product header, variant picker, disclosures and buy buttons. Highlight does not support other product page blocks in the popup. Customers see the full description on the product page.
