Search page

The Search page template sets how many results Highlight shows per page and turns on filters and sorting for search results.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

The Search page template shows the results of a store search: the matching products in a grid, then matching articles and pages. It sets how many results show per page and whether customers can filter and sort them.

Where to find it: Online Store → Themes → Customize → choose Search in the page menu at the top → Search results section.

Results

  • Results per page sets how many results show before the page numbers, 12 to 248 in steps of 4. Default: 24.
  • Products show in a regular grid with the same product cards as the rest of the store, set in Product card theme settings. Unique product badges show here too.
  • Articles and pages that match show under the products, with their date and an excerpt.
  • The search field at the top lets customers search again.

Filtering and sorting

Both are off by default on the search page, while they are on for collection pages.

  • Enable filtering shows the filters you set up in the Shopify Search & Discovery app, such as availability, price or color.
  • Enable sorting lets customers sort the results, for example by price.
  • Image filter layout shows filters with images or swatches in 1 column (the default) or 2 columns.

The filters themselves are Shopify's. See Collection page for how to set them up in Search & Discovery.

Why are there no filters on my search page?

Enable filtering is off, which is the default on the search page. Turn it on in the Search results section. Filters show only after a search that returns products, and only the filters you set up in the Search & Discovery app.

How do I change what the search drawer finds?

The search drawer in the header (predictive search) has its own settings: Theme settings → Predictive search can add SKU, barcode and tags to what it searches. See Predictive search theme settings.
