Theme settings

Predictive search theme settings

The Predictive search theme settings let Highlight's search drawer also find products by SKU, barcode or tag.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

Predictive search shows results while the customer types in the search drawer, which opens from the search icon in the header. These settings add more product fields to what it searches.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Predictive search

Search fields

  • Search by SKU also finds products by the SKU of any variant.
  • Search by barcode also finds products by a variant's barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN).
  • Search by tag also finds products by their tags.

The three settings were added in Highlight 4.1.0. They change the search drawer only; the full search results page uses Shopify's own search.

Letting customers search by SKU, barcode or tag

Open the Predictive search settings

In the theme editor, open Theme settings → Predictive search.

Turn on the fields you need

Turn on Search by SKU, Search by barcode or Search by tag, then select Save.

Test it in the search drawer

Open your store, select the search icon in the header and type a SKU, barcode or tag of a published product. The product shows in the results.

What does predictive search look through by default?

The product title, the product type, the variant titles and the vendor. The drawer then lists suggested searches, matching collections and matching products with their image and price, plus a link to all results. Turn on the settings above to add SKU, barcode or tags.

Why does the search drawer not find a product by its SKU?

Because Search by SKU is off by default. Turn it on in Theme settings → Predictive search. The product must also be published to the Online Store sales channel.
