Embellishments theme settings

The Embellishments theme settings set Highlight's image reveal effect and turn on breadcrumbs and the go to top button.

Applies to: Highlight 4.1.0 and later. Added in: Highlight 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Highlight 4.1.0.

The Embellishments theme settings add finishing touches to every page: how images appear as they load, a breadcrumb trail and a button that scrolls back to the top.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Embellishments

Image reveal effect

Image reveal effect sets how images appear as they load while the customer scrolls:

  • Mask (the default) uncovers each image with a short moving mask.
  • Opacity fades each image in.

On phones Highlight always uses the fade, for speed. The Single and Brush presets use Opacity on every screen.

  • Show breadcrumb adds a trail of links below the header, for example Home / Collections / Shirts. It does not show on the home page or the 404 page.
  • Show 'go to top' button adds a small round arrow button in the bottom corner of the screen. It appears after the customer scrolls down 500 px and scrolls the page back to the top. Highlight has had it since 3.0.0.

Why do images fade in instead of the mask effect on my phone?

Because Highlight always uses the opacity fade on phones (screens narrower than 600 px), whatever you choose in Image reveal effect. The mask effect shows on larger screens only. This is by design, not a setting.

Where do breadcrumbs appear?

On every page except the home page and the 404 page: collection, product and search pages, and also blogs, articles, regular pages, the cart and account pages. On product pages the trail shows the collection the customer came from when Theme settings → SEO & performance → Improve product breadcrumb navigation is on; see SEO and performance theme settings.
