What Combine does not do
What Combine does not do: the limits of the theme, which ones Shopify controls, and what to use instead.
Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.
Check here whether Combine can do something before you search the settings. Each entry states one limit of Combine 4.2.0, what to do instead, and the page that explains it. For changes that need code, see Custom work and code changes.
Discounts and checkout
- Combine does not create discounts. The Products set and Products bundle sections add the products, and optionally a discount code, to the cart; the price reduction is a Shopify discount you create in Shopify admin → Discounts. See Discounts and bundles.
- Combine does not tie an automatic discount to the bundle or the set. Shopify applies it to every cart that meets its rule, also when the customer adds the same products one by one. Use Discount type Discount code if the reduction should come only with the bundle. See Troubleshoot bundles and discounts.
- Combine does not support more than 4 products in a Products set. Use the Products bundle section for larger groups. See Products set section.
- Combine does not support different free shipping thresholds per market. Free shipping minimum amount is one amount, converted to the customer's currency. Use a shipping app, or request custom work. See Cart theme settings.
- Combine does not style the additional checkout buttons, such as PayPal or Shop Pay. Shopify draws them. See Cart theme settings.
- Combine does not change the checkout. Shopify controls the checkout pages; change them in Shopify admin → Settings → Checkout.
Product and collection pages
- Combine does not send automatic back in stock emails. The Back in stock alert block sends you an email, and you notify the customer. Use a back in stock app for automatic emails. See Product page.
- Combine does not compare products from search results or the Featured collection section. Comparing works in the collection page product grid, for up to 4 products. See Product comparison page.
- Combine does not show more than 3 dynamic icons in a product card. The product page Icons list block shows up to 6. See Dynamic icons list.
- Combine does not offer more than 3 custom product badges. See Product badges theme settings.
- Combine does not set up product filters. Shopify's Search & Discovery app chooses the filters; Combine shows them. See Collection page.
Popups and consent
- Combine does not show the Exit intent popup on phones and tablets, or in the theme editor preview, because exit intent needs a mouse. See Exit intent popup section.
- Combine does not run a real age check. The Age verification popup only asks the customer to select Enter. Use an age verification app for legal checks. See Age verification section.
- Combine does not limit a popup per customer account. Popup frequency works per browser, and Show each month shows the popup once per browser. See Troubleshoot popups.
Design
- Combine does not have color schemes. Colors come from Theme settings → Colors (Header, Body, Footer) and from each section's own design colors. See Colors theme settings.
- Combine does not have a store-wide button color setting. Buttons follow Theme settings → Colors → Body → Text; a few blocks have their own Background. Other button colors need custom CSS. See How do I change the button colors?.
- Combine does not support fonts outside Shopify's font library in the theme settings. It has three font pickers: Headings, Body and Section titles. Other fonts need code. See Typography theme settings and Custom CSS and code.
- Combine does not show icons for payment methods your store does not offer. The footer icons follow your payment settings; add others with Custom icons. See Footer group.
Sections and blocks
- Combine does not let you add theme blocks to sections other than Flex slideshow, Flex grid, Flex cards and Flex columns. Every other section has its own blocks. See Flex sections.
- Combine does not list the Slideshow (legacy) section in Add section. Use Flex slideshow for new slideshows. See Slideshow (legacy) section.
- Combine does not play uploaded video files in the Video section; it plays YouTube and Vimeo links. Use a Video slide in Flex slideshow or the Shoppable videos section for uploaded files. See Video section.
- Combine does not compare more than two images in one Image comparison section. Add another section for each pair. See Image comparison section.
- Combine does not support more than 10 hotspots in one Image with hotspots section, or an add to cart button in a hotspot tooltip. Use Shop the look for buyable cards next to an image. See Image with hotspots section.
- Combine does not hide or restart the countdown when it reaches zero, and it does not start or end a discount. Schedule the discount in Shopify admin and remove the section after the offer. See Countdown section.
- Combine does not import reviews from review apps into the Testimonials section. Use the app's own app block in the Apps section. See Testimonials section.
- Combine does not add extra fields to the contact form beyond phone and subject. Use a form app. See Contact form section.
Who controls the things that are not in the theme?
Shopify controls checkout, payments, shipping rates, discounts, markets and currencies, languages, customer accounts and product recommendations. Combine shows what Shopify provides, and each topic page links to the matching Shopify setting.
