Custom work and code changes

Custom work and code changes for Combine: what Krown support covers, what needs a developer, and where code-related pages are.

Applies to: Combine 4.2.0 and later. Added in: Combine 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Combine 4.2.0.

Use this page when the theme settings cannot make the change you want. It explains what Krown support helps with, what needs custom work, and how to keep changes when you update Combine.

What Krown support covers

Krown support helps you use Combine as it ships on the Shopify Theme Store:

  • How to set up a feature with the theme settings, sections and blocks, for example a products bundle, color swatches or a flex section.
  • Theme bugs: something that does not work as these docs describe. Krown fixes confirmed bugs in a theme update.
  • Small visual tweaks, such as a color, a font size, a spacing value or hiding an element, with a few lines of CSS for Theme settings → Custom CSS.

Contact Krown support at contact.krownthemes.com.

What needs custom work

Krown support does not provide custom code work. Customizations are paid work for a developer or an agency. This includes:

  • New features, sections or blocks that Combine does not have, for example a bundle with different discounts per product or a new popup type.
  • JavaScript or Liquid code, and edits to theme files.
  • Big changes to how a section behaves, or large layout changes.
  • A chain of small changes that adds up to a redesign. After the first small fix, further changes count as custom work.
  • Fixing code that an app, a developer or you added to the theme.
  • Logging in to your store to make changes.

When a request needs custom work, support says so and points you to the options below.

Is there a setting for it already?

Check before you ask for code. Many requests are settings: button colors (How do I change the button colors?), heading tags and margins (General section styling), the transparent header (Header section) or what each product card shows (Product grid blocks). What Combine does not do lists the known limits.

Can I get CSS for a small change?

Yes, for small visual changes. Krown support can give you a few lines of CSS for Theme settings → Custom CSS or a section's own Custom CSS field. See Custom CSS and code.

Who can build a custom feature for my store?

A Shopify developer or agency. For custom Shopify work, Krown recommends Vevol Media, a Europe-based agency that specializes in Shopify development and theme customization. See the Shopify Basics page Custom work. You can also find developers in Shopify's own Partner Directory.

Can I edit the theme files myself?

Yes, at your own risk. Shopify lets you edit the theme code in Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes → … → Edit code.

  • Krown support does not help with code edits.
  • Edits can stop working or get in the way of an update.
  • Duplicate the theme before you edit it, and keep a list of every change. See Edit the theme code.

Are my customizations kept when I update Combine?

Settings are; code edits only partly. Theme settings, sections, blocks, Custom CSS and the code in Custom HTML / Liquid sections and Custom Liquid blocks are settings, so Shopify carries them over. Edits to theme files are kept only when they do not conflict with the new version. See Update Combine.

How do I tell whether a problem comes from custom code or an app?

Test the same page in a fresh copy of Combine.

Add a fresh copy

Add the latest Combine from the Shopify Theme Store as a new theme and preview the same page. If the problem does not happen there, it comes from a code edit or an app in your theme.

Turn off apps one at a time

Turn off app embeds and remove app blocks one at a time, and reload the page after each.

Compare with the demo

Compare with the Combine demo stores on the Shopify Theme Store, in another browser and on another device.

See Troubleshoot store issues: first steps.

Who fixes a problem caused by an app?

The app developer. Krown support can confirm that a problem does not happen without the app, but it cannot change app code. Contact the app's support with a link to the page where it happens.
