SEO and other theme settings

The SEO & Other settings of Borders: microdata, breadcrumbs, drawer scrollbars, preloading links on hover and slider hints and pagination.

Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.

The SEO & Other settings group collects store-wide switches that fit nowhere else: structured data for search engines, breadcrumbs, the drawer scrollbar, link preloading and two slider options.

Where to find it: Theme settings → SEO & Other settings

Microdata

  • Disable microdata schema removes the structured data Borders adds for search engines: the website and organization, the breadcrumb trail, and the product or article on those pages.
  • Show breadcrumb shows the trail of links (Home / Collection / Product) above the title of product and other pages.
  • Improve product breadcrumb navigation opens products from a collection with a link inside that collection, so the breadcrumb shows the collection name instead of "Collections". It does this by linking to the product with the collection in its URL (/collections/<collection>/products/<product>); the canonical URL stays the product's own.

Accessibility

  • Show drawers scrollbar (on desktop) shows a visible scrollbar in the navigation, cart and search drawers when their content is longer than the screen. When it is off, the drawers scroll without a visible bar.

Performance

  • Preload links on hover starts loading a page when the customer points to its link, so it opens faster when they select it.

In Borders 3.1.0, turning Preload links on hover off stops preloading only on the cart page.

Sliders

  • Show scroll hint shows a small part of the next item at the edge of sliders, so customers see there is more to scroll.
  • Show pagination inside slider navigation elements adds the position (for example "1 - 6") between the previous and next arrows of sliders.

Should I disable the microdata schema?

Only when an SEO app writes its own structured data. Two sets of the same data can confuse search engines; one is enough. Without such an app, keep it off so Borders adds the product, article and breadcrumb data. See SEO.

Why does my product URL include the collection name?

Improve product breadcrumb navigation is on. Products opened from a collection use a URL inside that collection, so the breadcrumb can name it. Search engines still get the product's own address as the canonical URL. Turn the setting off for plain product URLs everywhere.
