Section headings and footers theme settings

The Section headings & footers theme settings of Borders style every section heading, its padding and slider arrows, and the section footer button.

Applies to: Borders 3.1.0 and later. Added in: Borders 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Borders 3.1.0.

Section headings are the optional titles at the top of most sections; section footers hold a call to action button and the slider arrows at the bottom. Their look is set once for the whole store here; the text, heading tag and button link are set in each section.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Section headings & footers

Section headings

These settings style the Heading of every section that has one.

  • Text font uses the Headings or the Body font from Typography theme settings.
  • Text size sets the size, from Small to Extra huge. The sizes scale from the font's Base size and shrink on smaller screens.
  • Mobile text size changes the size on phones (below 768 px): Small is 75 percent, Medium 90 percent and Large 120 percent of the default mobile size.
  • Text weight (bold) and Text style (italic) set the style. Borders loads the italic version of the heading font only when italic is on.
  • Top padding and Bottom padding set the space above and below the heading, from None to Extra large (15, 30, 60 or 90 px on wide screens).
  • Show slider navigation elements inside on desktop puts the previous and next arrows of slider sections in the heading row, on the right. When it is off, they show in the section footer.

In Borders 3.1.0, Line height is not applied to section headings: they keep the default line height.

One note on slider navigation elements - if the option is checked, even if your section doesn't have a title, the navigation will appear at the top of the section. And don't forget that on mobile devices it will appear at the bottom of the section, no matter what you choose here.

Inner pages

  • Section headings have a different size on inner pages than the homepage gives section headings a second size on every page except the home page.
  • Text size on inner pages is that size. Use it for smaller headings on product, collection and content pages, where the page title is already large.

The section footer is the row at the bottom of a section with the section's call to action button and, in sliders, the arrows. The button label and link are set in each section.

  • Button style sets Outline or Solid for the footer button and the slider arrows in the footer.
  • Button hover sets the hover effect. With Accent, the accent color slides in behind the label. With Invert, the opposite color slides in: the text color behind an outline button, the background color behind a solid one.

Making headings smaller on inner pages

Set the home page size

Open Theme settings → Section headings & footers and choose Text size, for example Extra large.

Turn on the inner pages size

Under Inner pages, turn on Section headings have a different size on inner pages than the homepage.

Choose the inner pages size

Set Text size on inner pages, for example Regular. Open a product page in the preview to check the headings of its sections.

Can I style the heading of one section differently?

No. The section heading style is the same in every section, so the store looks consistent. For a one-off title, leave the section's Heading empty and add a Rich text section above it with a Text block: it has its own Text font, Text size and Heading tag. See Rich text section.
