Cart theme settings

The Cart theme settings choose the cart type and set up the free shipping bar, gift wrapping, cart notes, terms checkbox and discount text in Seventh.

Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.

The Cart theme settings choose how the cart opens and what it offers: notes, discount codes, a terms checkbox, a free shipping bar and gift wrapping. They apply to both the cart drawer and the cart page.

Where to find it: Theme settings → Cart

Cart type: drawer or page

Cart type decides what happens when a customer adds a product or selects the cart icon in the header:

  • Drawer (the default): the whole cart opens in a drawer on the side of the current page.
  • Page: the customer goes to the cart page.

Use the drawer unless a cart app needs the cart page. If a cart app does not show or does not update, set Cart type to Page.

If you are using apps that tap into the cart functionality, especially that require JavaScript initialization, these might not be compatible with the drawer cart.

The cart drawer has more settings of its own (action buttons, cart recommendations and upsells) in Drawers group → Cart drawer. See Cart drawer section.

Notes, discounts and shipping

  • Enable cart notes adds a field for an order note. Notes show on the order in Shopify admin.
  • Enable cart discounts adds a field for discount codes, with the applied discounts in the cart.
  • Enable shipping calculator estimates shipping rates from the rates set in Shopify admin.

Shipping discounts can't be applied in the cart, they only work if applied at checkout.

Terms and conditions

With Enable terms and conditions requirement for checkout on, the checkout button stays disabled until the customer selects the checkbox. Use Checkbox label to add a link to your policies.

While the checkout button is disabled, customers can still reach the checkout manually by writing /checkout in the browser's URL :)

The check runs only in the cart, because Shopify controls checkout, not Seventh.

Free shipping bar

Turn on Show free shipping minimum amount and type the amount in Free shipping minimum amount, as a number only (for example 50). A progress bar then shows the amount left to reach free shipping, at the top of the cart drawer and of the subtotal card on the cart page.

  • Enter the amount in your store's default currency. Seventh converts it with Shopify's exchange rate for other currencies.
  • The bar only shows a message. The free shipping rate itself is set in Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery.

This feature works with markets automatically (the shipping amount is recalculated when changing the store's currency), but you cannot set different free shipping thresholds for different markets! This requires implementation via custom work or third party apps.

See Custom work and code changes.

Setting up gift wrapping

Gift wrapping is a product with one variant (so a fixed price). When the customer turns on the checkbox, Seventh adds it at the top of the cart.

Create the gift wrapping product

In Shopify admin → Products, create a product with one variant and the gift wrapping price. Make sure it is available on the Online Store.

Select it in the theme

Open Theme settings → Cart → Gift wrapping and select the product in Product.

Write the checkbox text

Change Text if you want a different checkbox label, then select Save.

The gift wrapping product doesn't have a quantity selector in the cart. It also misses the "remove product" button, the only way of adding it or removing it from the cart being the custom checkbox.

Media aspect ratio

These settings shape the small product images across the store: cart items, search results, mini product blocks, hotspots and cart recommendations.

  • Aspect ratio sets the shape: square, tall or taller.
  • Fit media inside container shows the whole image instead of cropping it. Container background then colors the empty space.
  • Image focal point sets which part of a cropped image stays visible.

For example, if you have tall images featuring models but want to save space and choose to show cart items as squares, you may want the head of the models always visible, case in which you can select the "top" focal point.

Who controls discounts, shipping rates and checkout?

Shopify does, not Seventh. The theme only shows a discount field, a shipping rate estimate and the checkout button. Create discounts in Shopify admin → Discounts (see Shopify's discounts guide) and shipping rates in Shopify admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery.

Why do the accelerated checkout buttons disappear?

Shopify's accelerated checkout buttons (for example Shop Pay or Apple Pay) only load with the page. After a customer changes the cart, they disappear until the page reloads. Keep Show additional checkout buttons off if this is a problem.
