SEO and other theme settings

The SEO and other theme settings in Seventh (group SEO & Other settings) cover microdata, breadcrumbs, the drawer scrollbar, preloading and video compression.

Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.

The SEO and other theme settings control the theme's structured data, product breadcrumb links, the drawer scrollbar, link preloading and video compression. In the theme editor this group is called SEO & Other settings.

Where to find it: Theme settings → SEO & Other settings

Microdata

Disable microdata schema removes all structured data (schema.org markup) from the page:

  • WebSite and Organization data, and a BreadcrumbList on product, collection, blog, article and regular pages. Seventh writes these itself.
  • Product data on product pages and Article data on blog posts. Seventh prints these from Shopify's structured_data output; Shopify decides their content.

Turn it on only when an SEO app or your own code adds structured data, so search engines do not see it twice.

For any issues related to structured data (eg: Google Search Console errors), please contact Shopify support, as the code that creates the schema search engines use is platform-wide, independent from the theme.

See Shopify's SEO overview.

With Improve product breadcrumb navigation on, product cards inside a collection link to the product through that collection, for example /collections/clothing/products/baseball-cap. The breadcrumbs on the product page can then show Home → collection → product.

  • The same product can then be reached at several addresses, one per collection.
  • Every one of them points search engines to the main address /products/baseball-cap with a canonical link, which Shopify adds.
  • Turned off, product cards link to the main address and the breadcrumbs show Home → product.

Accessibility

Drawers scroll without a visible scrollbar, for a clean design. Turn on Show drawers scrollbar (on desktop) to show one, which makes the drawers more accessible.

Performance

  • Preload links on hover starts loading a page when the customer holds the pointer over a link, or touches it on mobile. It does not make pages load faster, but it shortens the wait the customer notices.
  • Compress MP4 videos also offers the browser Shopify's compressed streaming version of each self-hosted video. YouTube and Vimeo videos are not affected.

In Seventh 4.0.0, turning off Preload links on hover stops preloading only on the cart page. Links on other pages still preload.

Should I keep Improve product breadcrumb navigation on?

Yes, if you show breadcrumbs: it is useful for your customers. Some SEO advice still prefers one address per product. If you follow it, turn the setting off.

When should I use Compress MP4 videos?

Turn it on when large self-hosted videos load slowly. Short videos can lose quality.
