Layout theme settings
The Layout theme settings set the maximum page width, the space between sections and the gap between cards and columns in Seventh.
Applies to: Seventh 4.0.0 and later. Added in: Seventh 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-12 against Seventh 4.0.0.
The Layout theme settings set the maximum page width and the default spacing for the whole store. A change here applies to every section that keeps its spacing on Default.

Page width and spacing
- Maximum page width sets the widest the page content gets.
- Default spacing between sections sets the space above and below each section.
- Default horizontal spacing between cards & columns sets the gap between cards and between columns.
Each section can change both spacing values on its own (see below).
Seventh scales both spacing values down on smaller screens. Section spacing drops to 80 percent at 1360 px wide and below, and to 60 percent at 1023 px and below. The card and column gap drops in steps down to 35 percent on mobile.

Can I change the spacing of one section only?
Yes. Each section has its own spacing settings that work from these defaults:
- Top padding and Bottom padding in the section's Section design settings multiply Default spacing between sections: Default (1x), None, Smaller (0.5x), Larger (2x) or Largest (3x).
- Grid gap in the section's Layout settings replaces Default horizontal spacing between cards & columns for that section. Default keeps the value from Theme settings → Layout.

Why does my store not get wider on a large monitor?
Because the content stops at Maximum page width (default: 1860 px). On a wider screen, the content is centered. On a narrower screen, it fills the screen width. To use more of a wide screen, raise Maximum page width, or turn on Extend section width to the edges of the screen in the sections where it is available.

Maximum page width (slider 1480 to 2560 px, step 20, default: 1860 px): Sets the widest the page content gets. On screens narrower than this value the content fills the screen; on wider screens it is centered.
Default spacing between sections (slider 50 to 250 px, step 10, default: 100 px): Sets the default space above and below each section. A section's Top padding and Bottom padding multiply this value.
Default horizontal spacing between cards & columns (slider 5 to 60 px, default: 30 px): Sets the default gap between cards and between columns. A section whose Grid gap is Default uses this value.
