Footer group
The Footer group of Local holds the Footer section with text, menus, images, payment icons and an email signup, plus any section you add.
Applies to: Local 4.2.1 and later. Added in: Local 1.0.0. Last checked: 2026-10-13 against Local 4.2.1.
The Footer group is the bottom part of your store. It shows on every page and holds the information customers look for everywhere: contact details, links, payment methods and the newsletter. By default it has one section, the Footer, and you can add other sections above or below it.
Where to find it: Footer group → Footer
Footer layout
- Desktop layout sets how many columns the footer blocks fill on desktop: 3, 4 (default), 5 or 6. The layout adapts itself on tablets and phones.
- Heading tag (SEO) sets the HTML level of the block headings, H4 by default.
- Remove top margin (Section design) removes the space between the last page section and the footer.
Under the columns, the footer shows the copyright line with your store name and the year, and the "Powered by Shopify" credit. To remove the credit, see Remove the Powered by Shopify credit.
Footer blocks
The footer content is set with five blocks. Each block has a Heading at the top; leave it empty to show no heading.
- Text & social icons shows rich text, with an optional Image (its width set by Image size, 50 to 250 px). Title size sets the heading to Regular or Large. Show social icons adds the icons from Social theme settings, and Enable Follow on Shop adds Shopify's Follow on Shop button, which needs Shop Pay. Do not use headings (H1 to H6) inside the text: the block already has its own heading.
- Menu shows the links of a Shopify menu,
footerby default. Only the first level of the menu shows, without dropdown items. - Image shows an image, for example a store photo or trust badges, with an optional Link. Turn on Constrain image width to limit it to Maximum width (50 to 300 px); otherwise it fills the column.
- Payment icons shows the icons of your payment methods, see below.
- Email signup shows a newsletter form. Emails are saved in Shopify admin → Customers, with the tag
newsletter.
Payment icons
The payment icons that are displaying in the footer section are from Shopify directly: they follow your store's payment settings and the customer's region and currency.
If an icon you need is missing, you can manually upload your payment icons in Footer group → Footer → Payment icons.
- Icon 1 to Icon 6 (Custom icons) add your own payment icons, as 114 x 72 px PNG images. They show after Shopify's icons.
- Only show the custom icons hides Shopify's icons and keeps only yours.
Language selector
- Show language selector shows a language dropdown at the bottom of the footer, when your store has more than one language. See Translate your store into multiple languages.
Country/region selector
- Show country/region selector shows a country and currency dropdown at the bottom of the footer, when your store sells to more than one country with Shopify Markets. Its look is set in Currency format theme settings.
Why are my payment icons not showing?
Because Shopify shows only the payment methods that are active in your store and available for the customer's country and currency. Check Shopify admin → Settings → Payments. For a method Shopify does not show, upload its icon in Icon 1 to Icon 6 of the Payment icons block.
Can I add other sections to the footer?
Yes. Select Add section in the Footer group of the theme editor and choose a section, for example an Email signup or a Text columns with icons section with your store policies. Sections in the Footer group show on every page, above or below the Footer section.
Why does my footer menu not show its dropdown links?
Because the Menu block shows only the top level of a menu. Put the links you need at the top level of the footer menu in Shopify admin → Online Store → Navigation, or use several Menu blocks, one per column.
